‘Supernatural’ Season 12: Rick Springfield Will Play An Unexpected Role [Spoilers]

Supernatural Season 12 will be far more like the first two seasons, as the show returns to its roots. These episodes will focus on the family, as well as showing more of the family business of hunting. Sam and Dean will be hunting down ghosts, witches, demons, and vampires, as well as the Devil himself. Supernatural intends to recapture the magic of the early episodes the fans first fell in love with. There will be a lot more horror and a lot less of the big picture, according to Variety.

Supernatural Season 12’s first episode will air on the CW on October 13. For those who want to review the previous season before Season 12 starts, Netflix will make Season 11 available eight days before the new season begins, according to the Christian Post. Seasons 1-10 are available now for those who would like to review the entire series before the new shows are aired. It certainly isn’t too early to start catching up.

Warning: Supernatural Season 12 spoilers can be found below.

Sam and Dean, played by Jared Padalecki and Jenson Ackles, are getting reacquainted with their mom again, which is a pretty interesting trick considering her fiery death when Sam was still an infant. Mary Winchester, who is played by Samantha Smith, is back from the dead. For those unfamiliar with the show, that might seem really strange, but Supernatural is a show where anything can happen.

In Supernatural Season 12, mom is now fully resurrected, and it is time for Sam and Dean to get to know her. Born into a family of hunters, Mary had wanted more for her bright and handsome sons than the hunting life, but as an ironic twist, it was her death that led the boys and their father to become hunters. Showrunner Andrew Dabb revealed to TV Online that the brothers will eventually learn that their dear, sweet mother had a lot of secrets.

“The story’s always been, ‘Once Mary married John and settled down, she stopped hunting, But we’re going to find out maybe that’s not the whole story.”

Jared Padalecki, who plays Sam on Supernatural, explained to TV Online that their mom has no one but herself to blame for her sons’ interest in killing.

“Sam blames Dad for all the hunting stuff, but really, you could argue it’s Mom’s fault. She was the hunter. It was the Campbell family, not the Winchester family. It wasn’t her fault, but it was her lineage that led us to where we are now.”

Rick Springfield will join the cast of Supernatural in Season 12 as well. In an ironic twist of fate, Supernatural’s Lucifer will find a new body to inhabit, and guess who he’s going to take over? A real rock star, that’s who. Springfield will be possessed by Lucifer this season — or at least his character will be. Springfield will be playing the most challenging role of all.
