‘The Vampire Diaries’ May Revive Elena For Nina Dobrev Return

It may have taken Nina Dobrev some time to adjust to Hollywood, but, now that she has, she’s getting back on top of her game with several new film projects in the works. That doesn’t mean Nina has forgotten all about that little Atlanta-based The CW series. In fact, Dobrev is in talks to return to The Vampire Diaries for its final season. Was there ever any doubt that Nina would reprise Elena Gilbert one day? Ms. Dobrev’s return to The Vampire Diaries may be just what the series needs to send off the show with a big ratings jump and an exciting new story arc.

Nina Dobrev Is In Talks To Return To The Vampire Diaries

Fans of The Vampire Diaries have been seeing online rumors that Nina Dobrev would be returning to The CW series, basically since Nina first left the show. While the gossip never really panned out, E! News reveals that the new surge of talk is based in fact, coming directly from The CW executive Mark Pedowitz. While speaking at the Television Critics Association summer press tour, Pedowitz confirmed that the network is in talks with Ms. Dobrev, negotiating her return for the final season of The Vampire Diaries.

“We collectively came to the same place,” Pedowitz added about the decision to end The Vampire Diaries. “We backed Julie [Plec] in her decision…there are discussions going on with Nina, we’d love to have her back…These are discussions that go on, hopefully she’ll be back, but should it not work out, Julie has planned out a great series finale for fans.”

The implication seems to be that the decision will come down to Dobrev’s willingness to commit to a return and, as The CW exec says, both he and The Vampire Diaries showrunner Julie Plec are eager to get Nina back on the show, even if only for a short time. The number of episodes will have to be ironed out between Plec and Dobrev, if the deal is finalized.

In speaking of the end of The Vampire Diaries, Pedowitz responded to concerns that the end of the show might spell doom for its spin-off, The Originals. The CW boss said he considers the two shows separate entities, so the cancellation of one would not affect the other.

“[The Originals] can live very well on its own…Julie’s still heavily involved in that also. I’m hopeful that we’ll see a fifth year.”

Nina Dobrev Is Set To Take Hollywood By Storm

Whether or not Nina chooses to reprise Elena Gilbert in The Vampire Diaries, she won’t be hurting for work. She has already debuted in some films with The Final Girls giving Dobrev her largest role to date on the big screen. That’s about to change. Movie Pilot reports that Nina is already working on a few interesting projects in a variety of genres, which can only help to expand the actress’ range. There’s no doubt that Dobrev’s acting talents will take her far beyond the Mystic Falls city limits and into an impressive Hollywood career.

First up, Nina will be exploring her ability to make people laugh in Kevin Tent’s Crash Pad, due out later this year. Dobrev stars alongside Domhnall Gleeson, Christina Applegate, and Thomas Haden Church in the story of a hopeless romantic (Domhnall Gleeson) who becomes entangled in the marital problems of an older woman (Christina Applegate). Nina will play a character named Hannah, and although nothing else is known, it’s hoped that Dobrev will play a more suitable love interest for Gleeson.

Thanks to the practical jokes perpetrated by Nina and co-star Ruby Rose, we all know by now that Ms. Dobrev is also starring in the Vin Diesel sequel, xXx: Return of Xander Cage. Dobrev will be playing a character named Rebecca/Becky.

While the previous roles have other stars overshadowing Nina’s roles, she’s sure to shine brighter in the Flatliners reboot, joining an ensemble cast as one of the doctors seeking to cheat death. Details of the plot at this time aren’t specific enough to reveal how closely the reboot will follow the first film, but Flatliners‘ original producers Michael Douglas and Rick Bieber are on board.

Many of Dobrev’s fans follow her from The Vampire Diaries, so her return to horror in Flatliners may just be her most anticipated role to date. In any case, everyone will be waiting on pins and needles, hoping to have Nina Dobrev confirm her return as Elena Gilbert on The CW’s The Vampire Diaries.
