‘GoldenEye: 007’: It’s Back And Free To Download

Do you remember GoldenEye: 007 game for the Nintendo 64? Now, you can relive the glory days for free in a newly updated PC download.

Yes, you’ve read correctly. “This is not a game.”

Well, actually, it is a game — one of the greatest games on the planet, in the eyes of fans of that era of gaming.

According to Verge, this “unofficial” version of GoldenEye: 007 has been recreated in high definition.

Just take a look at the game’s trailer below.

And, it only took 10 years.

Nevertheless, it looks like the game could be a free masterpiece — as far as the GoldenEye namesake is concerned.

However, specifically, they’re calling it GoldenEye: Source. The source notes that the creators gave the game’s first update in three years on August 12. And, basically, the update is a call to action which — to paraphrase — says come one, come all.

As seen from the video, the current version of the GoldenEye game is 5.0.

And, as aforementioned, it’s a free download.

“It features 25 recreated maps, 10 different multiplayer modes, and redesigned versions of the original game’s 28 weapons,” reports Verge.

GoldenEye looks like digital eye candy.

Many commentators have mentioned the software’s visuals. The majority vote seems to agree that GoldenEye: Source looks better than the original.

According to the official website, “Luchador” is noted as the lead artist for the game.

“I did the best that I could under the memory restrictions, and I’m still proud of the amount of detail I was able to put into the map,” says the GoldenEye artist.

With all these upsides, there has to be at least one downside. Well, if you’re a loner and don’t mind being the sole hero, you might be slightly disappointed with this particular GoldenEye edition.

There’s no single player mode.

But, really, how many games are single player nowadays? Even if particular games are single player, many of them require you to play online — which is just another version of multiplayer mode.

GoldenEye: Source‘s managing director and lead programmer, noted as E.S., mentions that they were only attempting to stir a little interest with the game when they restarted working on it. However, GoldenEye‘s mission changed.

“I was aiming for a quick content patch to fix some long standing issues and stir up some interest in the game again,” says E.S. “Somewhere along the way to that objective, however, I realized that there was no way this team was going to settle for anything less than the biggest release this project has seen, and I knew we could get there.”

“After tens of thousands of man hours and many unforeseen hurdles to overcome, we did it. [GoldenEye: Source] 5.0 is here and I could not be prouder of all the people who came together and put aside their differences to make it happen.

“There is more work to be done, and will no doubt be more unseen hurdles, but with [GoldenEye: Source] 5.0 I am confident we’re starting things on the right foot. We look forward to finally playing with the community and getting their thoughts on all of our hard work.

“With all of that out of the way, I’m proud to start the release of [GoldenEye: Source] with the same phrase I would start each of our tests with:

“‘This is good, kill each other.'”

All in all, GoldenEye: Source has become the trending topic of the last 24 hours within the gaming community. And, as you can see, it’s for good reason.
