Shawn Booth Says Wedding With ‘Bachelorette’ Kaitlyn Bristowe Is Not In The Works

Shawn Booth says the next Bachelorette wedding may not be his. Booth, who won the heart of Kaitlyn Bristowe on the Season 11 finale of The Bachelorette, says he and his fiancé haven’t started planning their wedding yet, and if it were up to him it wouldn’t be a big, televised to-do. In an interview with E! News, Shawn said he and Kaitlyn are “just enjoying being engaged” and that they are in no rush to walk down the aisle.

While a big wedding is not in the works just yet, Booth revealed that the couple did consider eloping during a trip to Las Vegas recently.

“We were in Vegas this past weekend and we were like, ‘Let’s just go get married at a chapel,’ but then we’d probably get sued by ABC because they have the first rights,” Shawn revealed.

“So yeah, we haven’t started planning yet. We’re just enjoying being engaged and things are great and if you follow us on social media, you’ll see we’re all over the place.”

Booth admitted that every single couple that comes out of The Bachelor franchise is a target for tabloid controversy, so he’s happy to no longer be in the hot seat. Shawn said he and Kaitlyn had to deal with negative tabloid attention for months after she gave him her final rose.

“Every single couple that comes out of that show is a ‘controversial couple.’ So last year it was me and Kaitlyn and we had to deal with breakup rumors, cheating rumors, pregnancy rumors for the first six months. But then everybody starts to realize, ‘OK, maybe they’re the real deal.'”

Shown Booth revealed that he didn’t really get to know his now-fiancé until after the camera stopped rolling. According to Shawn, he and Kaitlyn like to say that they “used the show to meet each other, and we started dating after the show.” Shawn revealed that “luckily” the reality show worked out for them and there have been no big surprises in his relationship with Bristowe. Booth added that the real test begins a few months after the show ends because “that’s when you really find out who the person is – and she’s amazing.”

Booth also said he and Bristowe get tired of people hounding them about when they are going to get married, to the point that it makes them not want to do it anytime soon.

“We’re just so crazy busy and we’re enjoying being engaged,” he said. “The more pressure, the more we’re like ‘Well, we’re not going to do it now!’ We’ll do it when the time is right.”

While Shawn Booth made it clear that they haven’t hired a wedding planner yet, he did tell People that a wedding is still on the agenda for some time in the future.

“Hopefully, by the end of the year, we’ll start planning,” Shawn said.

While he found love on The Bachelorette and will possibly even appear in a primetime TV wedding someday, Shawn revealed that he and Kaitlyn do not watch the ABC reality show anymore. They skipped JoJo Fletcher’s season of the show altogether, although they hope to get together with the latest Bachelorette lovebirds—Fletcher and her fiancé Jordan Rodgers— for an off-camera double date. Shawn told People that it’s too hard for him to watch the ABC reality franchise now that he has been through the wringer.

“[We] closed the door,” Booth told People. “It’s too much anxiety on Monday nights. After going through that and seeing what happens, what goes on, it’s tough to watch. We kind of stay away from it.”
