Jamie Dornan Distances Himself From ‘Fifty Shades’ Franchise, Calls Movies ‘Silly’

Jamie Dornan is reportedly trying his best to distance himself from the Fifty Shades of Grey franchise. While his films with Dakota Johnson turned him into a household name, it seems like the Fifty Shades actor cannot wait for the entire franchise to be over.

According to Celeb Dirty Laundry, Jamie Dornan has had it with playing Christian Grey, calling the Fifty Shades franchise silly. The outlet reported that Dornan is done with the role and cannot wait to do other projects. CDL, however, claimed that his career “depended on the success of Fifty Shades Darker.” If he is unable to get fans of E.L. James’ erotic romance trilogy excited for the film adaptation, he could reportedly kiss his career goodbye.

“If the film bombs at the box office, there’s no doubt that Jamie Dornan’s dreams of being on Hollywood’s A-list will never happen. After all, if he can’t bring in audiences for a movie like Fifty Shades Darker, then both producers and directors are going to have a hard time taking him seriously.”

In an interview with Good Morning America, Jamie Dornan made it clear that he does not want to be typecast by Fifty Shades of Grey. Dornan was on the show to promote his new movie, Anthropoid, but it clearly seemed that everyone was more interested to know about Fifty Shades Darker. Dornan plays a Czech soldier on a mission to assassinate a top-ranking Nazi official in his latest film; a role that is very different from suave billionaire Christian Grey in the Fifty Shades trilogy.

Given the opportunity, Dornan said that he preferred playing different types of character to make things interesting.

“I think as an actor, you do just want to mix it up and do stuff that challenges you. You don’t want to be typecast. That is definitely a part of it.”

Fifty Shades Darker is set to hit theaters in February 2017, and the final movie, Fifty Shades Freed, will be released in 2018. Jamie explained that filming the two movies back to back had to be done just so the cast members, especially Dornan and Dakota Johnson, could stay in character.

“It was the right way to do it. It was good for everyone, in terms of keeping up with the energy,” he added.

Filming Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed back to back was not easy. Jamie Dornan said that he could not help but feel “relieved” once they wrapped up the filming.

“It’s satisfying to put an end to any job, I think, and to do two back to back, I think there’s an element of relief that the work is done and you’re happy with it.”

Jamie Dornan recently opened up about the “nudity double standard” in Hollywood. His onscreen partner, Dakota Johnson, was asked in several interviews about her take on the issue. At one point, she even joked about starting an online petition to get Dornan “fully naked” in Fifty Shades Darker. Speaking to Vanity Fair, the actor agreed that there is indeed a double standard when it comes to nudity in Hollywood, but he also pointed out that men were also sexualized by fans and the media.

“I do think it’s unfair. I understand why women have an issue with that… I feel very subjective a lot of the time at work. So I wouldn’t say I’m relatively not objectified in the work place. I am. It’s not just the women, but men too,” he explained.
