Shay Mitchell Wasn’t Comfortable Cutting Her Hair, Used Extensions Instead
Shay Mitchell made it look easy when she switched up her look. The Pretty Little Liars star took to social media to show off her new shorter hairstyle. Now, she’s revealing how she made it look so easy.
Shay Mitchell’s fans went into a state of shock when the actress cut off her long locks. Mitchell is known for her beautiful dark long locks. She even revealed that it was time to switch up her style and get rid of her “security blanket,” referring to her long waves. Mitchell shocked fans in recent days when she was spotted rocking a long bob.
It looked like the starlet was following in the footsteps of her co-star, Lucy Hale, who recently chopped off her long locks.
But fans can breathe a sigh of relief. According to PeopleStyle, Shay’s hairstylist, Chris Appleton, is also the man who created Kim Kardashian’s fake long bob. It turns out the reality star’s new haircut was a wig. So, does that mean that Shay is wearing a wig, as well? He addressed the beauty’s new look to PeopleStyle.
“I gave Shay a new look, but it’s all an illusion. We wanted to try a new shape and length without the commitment.”
Then, he took to Instagram to post another photo of the actress on Tuesday, Aug. 9, as noted by Us Weekly.
But, according to a report via Teen Vogue, the actress is actually wearing extensions, not a wig. Instead of wearing a wig, this time around, Chris used extensions to create the illusion of shorter hair.
To create the fake long bob, or “lob,” Appleton “braided away the underneath of Shay’s hair and used a hair piece on the back. He also did something that he didn’t try with Kardashian’s blunt hairstyle. He wanted to give Mitchell texture, so he trimmed the ends away with a razor. Then, he placed the extensions on the crown of her head to disguise the braid. Sounds like a lot of work, but Shay looks so good that it’s almost worth doing it yourself.
Does that mean that Shay Mitchell will ever cut off her long locks? Don’t expect her to unless she really has to.
“Would I cut my hair? If it were needed for the role, it’s hair and it’s gonna grow back. Maybe that would be a new challenge for me. But it is my security blanket.”
But, the celebrity stylist said that a long bob is the best way to transform your hair on those hot summer days.
“[A lob] is perfect for the heat. It’s not so heavy and long,” Shay Mitchell coyly told Us Weekly at a recent event. “Sometimes I just want to shave all my hair off!”
But, it doesn’t look like Mitchell is going to cut or shave off her hair anytime soon. The inspiration behind her latest look is Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, who recently showed off her new haircut. Mitchell also cited Rihanna as one of her other beauty inspirations.
“I think Rosie Huntington has great hair. I like the fact that Rihanna switches up her look all the time… Ciara’s color, that blonde — I love it.”
Although Mitchell is not brave enough to try out a new hairstyle, she hinted that she may experiment with a new color for the upcoming season.
“Maybe [I’ll go] auburn [in autumn],” she teased to the outlet. “I love fall. It’s my favorite season.”
She last fooled fans about her latest look when she took a selfie with co-star and good friend Ashley Benson. According to Teen Vogue, Shay posted a photo of herself wearing a blonde wig that was designed by who else than Chris. Both Shay and the naturally blonde Ashley wore similar contour makeup looks with bronze shadow. We have got to say, Shay looks just good as a blonde as she does a brunette.
