Ian Somerhalder And ‘Vampire Diaries’ Creator Julie Plec At War Over Nina Dobrev’s Return

The Vampire Diaries is currently in production for its 8th and final season.

While fans eagerly wait to see the show come to a decisive end, Ian Somerhalder and Julie Plec are not on the same page about Nina Dobrev’s return.

According to Celeb Dirty Laundry, Plec wants Dobrev to reprise her role on the hit series while Somerhalder does not want his former girlfriend on set.

The feud between Somerhalder and Plec started during Comic-Con in San Diego last month.

The cast and crew put together a heartfelt farewell to fans for the event. However, things took a surprising turn once fans started asking about Dobrev.

Movie News Guide is reporting that Somerhalder even snapped at one fan who asked about familiar faces returning for the final season.

“No, you’re not gonna get ’em,” Somerhalder told fans.

Plec, however, was quick to jump in and talked about Dobrev’s promise to return for the series finale.

At this point, Somerhalder lost control and questioned the show’s creator in front of everyone.

“I thought we had a conversation about that, apparently not,” he allegedly told Plec.

Somerhalder’s comment alludes to a secret meeting between him and Plec about Dobrev’s return to The Vampire Diaries.

Clearly, Somerhalder does not want Dobrev back, even though it’s not really up to him to decide how the show ends.

As fans will recall, Somerhalder and Dobrev dated for a few years during her time on the show. Unfortunately, their relationship didn’t work out and Dobrev left the series shortly after the breakup.

Somerhalder eventually moved on with his life and started dating Twilight star Nikki Reed.

Reed and Somerhalder are currently married, though their relationship has faced numerous divorce rumors over the past year.

Is Reed the reason Ian Somerhalder doesn’t want to work with Dobrev again?

Reports indicate that Reed is jealous and doesn’t want her husband working with Dobrev on the last season of The Vampire Diaries.

Of course, rumors of Reed’s jealousy have not been confirmed.

According to Just Jared, the actress accompanied Somerhalder to Comic-Con and was spotted hanging out with other members of the hit series.

Also in attendance at the event were Candice King, Paul Wesley, Kat Graham, Michael Malarkey, and Zach Roerig.

Following the panel at Comic-Con, Reed joined Somerhalder and the rest of the cast in celebration of Wesley’s 34th birthday.

Meanwhile, it is also unclear if Dobrev wants to return to the show and wrap up her character’s storyline. The actress has yet to announce her intentions with the show.

Dobrev was last seen on Season 6 of The Vampire Diaries.

Fortunately, Plec left enough room for Dobrev to return as Elena, who was last seen going into a deep sleep.

At the same time, there is a possibility that Dobrev could be a main villain in the new season.

Dobrev recorded a voiceover for the Season 7 finale, which marked her first involvement with the franchise since her departure.

It also indicates that Plec has maintained a working relationship with Dobrev, which is promising for fans who hope she makes one last cameo.

Indeed, Plec has hinted at Dobrev’s return in the past and made the actress promise that she would return one last time whenever the show ended.

Does this mean that Plec is bringing Dobrev back, despite Somerhalder’s objections?

Until more information is released, fans will have to wait to find out what happens between Somerhalder and Plec.

Filming for the new season of The Vampire Diaries is currently underway. The season is scheduled to return to The CW on Oct. 21.
