Sarah Michelle Gellar Says Shannen Doherty Is A ‘True Friend’

Sarah Michelle Gellar has come to Shannen Doherty’s side in a new Instagram post, as she sits at the Charmed actress’ bedside to offer her support and lend her some of her own strength. Doherty has touched the hearts of millions with her brave fight against cancer and, as her condition has become more complicated and her struggle more exhaustive, friends have come to her to show that she isn’t alone. Ms. Gellar is the latest to show Shannen some love during her cancer battles and, much like her Buffy the Vampire Slayer character, Sarah is only too willing to lend her own strength to help a friend fight a battle.

Sarah Michelle Gellar Shares A Special Moment With Shannen Doherty

On Monday, Entertainment Weekly shared Sarah Michelle Gellar’s visit with Shannen Doherty, which Gellar had documented on Instagram with a touching caption. The two actresses have been friends since they’re Beverly Hills 90210 days, so it was only a matter of time before Gellar shared her love and respect for Doherty with her own Instagram followers. Like millions of others, Sarah is humbled by the bravery Shannen has shown in her public battle against breast cancer, which has since spread to her lymph nodes and possibly beyond.

“My #mondaymuse (and really every day #muse) is my brave friend @theshando, I’ve always said she is one of the most loyal friends I’ve ever known, and now while she is facing the toughest journey of her life, she is sharing it with friends she has never met in the hopes of helping other people who are going through the same struggle. That’s a true friend #F—Cancer,” Ms. Gellar wrote in the caption of an Instagram photo.

The image shows Sarah and Shannen together with Ms. Doherty looking as brave and hopeful as ever. Earlier, Shannen had expressed feeling worn down and defeated by her cancer battles, so a visit from her long-time friend may have been enough to re-invigorate the Beverly Hills 90210 actress.

Sarah Michelle Gellar On The Possibility Of A Buffy The Vampire Slayer Reboot

Professionally, Sarah is revisiting past roles she made iconic with her own passionate acting style, beginning with the reprisal of Cruel Intentions‘ Kathryn Merteuil, shares New York Daily News. Beyond that, there has been speculation that a Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot is in the works, and Gellar’s fans are eager for Sarah to return to what many consider her greatest role of all.

Can we expect Gellar to return as Buffy Summers?

“Hold on — you never know… but that being said, the point of Buffy, what was so special about it was, it was a metaphor of the horrors of high school,” Ms. Gellar responded to the question at Friday’s BlogHer conference. “The monsters were literally the manifestation of the horrors of that time. That’s a very specific story. I don’t know what that story is now.”

That’s not a no, but it’s not a yes either. Fans will have to wait and see.

Ms. Gellar did confirm that the Cruel Intentions sequel is happening, however, and that it will be a made for television event. There are still some details to be worked out, says Sarah, adding that fans should look for greater detail on the Cruel Intentions sequel in the next few months.

“We have to do it right. It’s a naughty show and we have to pay homage to what it is,” said Ms. Gellar.

Sarah also took the opportunity at the event to endorse her support for Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton. She says she’s proud that her daughter can see a woman running for President of the United States, because it opens up the possibility or her, as well. Gellar also says her family has known the Clinton family for years and she trusts in them.
