It seems Chick-Fil-A can do no right when it comes to pleasing America’s politically committed chicken biscuit eaters — when CEO Dan Cathy openly shuns gay marriage and it turns out the company gives cash to anti-gay groups, people boycott and when they quit it, people boycott.

In case you missed it this week, Chick-Fil-A conceded that they would stop giving dough to organizations that fight marriage equality and in other ways seek to limit the rights of gays in the US. Previously, it was reported that the organization gave money to groups that in turn funded things like therapy to “cure” homosexuality, a practice that is considered pointless at best and harmful at worst by most legitimate psychiatric professionals.

But Chick-Fil-A’s decision to no longer donate funds to such groups did not come without consequence either — as of yesterday, the chain’s Facebook page was still being bombarded with messages from angry former supporters that were disappointed Chick-Fil-A chose to reverse their position on gay marriage and donations.

But Chick-Fil-A’s lose-lose situation wasn’t precipitated by the suggested roadblocks the chain faced expanding into certain cities, Cathy says:

“Chick-fil-A made no such concessions, and we remain true to who we are and who we have been …”

“There continues to be erroneous implications in the media that Chick-fil-A changed our practices and priorities in order to obtain permission for a new restaurant in Chicago. That is incorrect.”

It seems that since Cathy opened his mouth on the issue, Chick-Fil-A has been damned if they do and damned if they don’t. Do you still eat at Chick-Fil-A?
