Shannen Doherty’s Brave Cancer Battle: Friend And Actress Sarah Michelle Gellar Offers Support

Actress Shannen Doherty has been very open about her terrifying battle after her cancer spread. Since she opened up about her struggles battling cancer, many have come out in support of the 90210 actress.

One of those people is her friend Sarah Michelle Gellar. The Buffy actress let her support and frustration out in an Instagram post. Posing, smiling with her friend Doherty, Sarah Michelle Gellar captioned the photo for her friend.

“My #mondaymuse (and really every day #muse) is my brave friend @theshando. I’ve always said she is one of the most loyal friends I’ve ever known, and now while she is facing the toughest journey of her life, she is sharing it with friends she has never met in the hopes of helping other people who are going through the same struggle. That’s a true friend #F**kCancer”

While we don’t know where or when Sarah Michelle Gellar and Shannen Doherty met, odds are that the two, who acted in different shows for the same network, met because of the now defunct network the WB. Sarah Michelle Gellar worked on Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Shannen Doherty worked on Charmed.

As the Inquisitr reported, Doherty has been open about her battle with breast cancer. In an interview, Doherty said that the cancer spread, and was found during a surgical procedure. Of her treatment plan, Doherty said, “For that reason, we are doing chemo, and then after chemo, I’ll do radiation.”

Doherty got a mastectomy and described the experience as “traumatic.” Later on, she said, “My mom went with me and I broke down crying in the dressing room and ran out. And then sat in the car crying.”

Days ago, Shannen, who received praise for sharing the process of shaving her head in prep for chemo, described what it was like to go through the treatment to bring awareness, and let people in on her journey.

“Each person’s cancer journey is different. For me, chemo has been terrible and believe me, we have tried almost everything. So days like this have become a bit of the norm. I’m learning that it’s ok to fall into bed and give in to the exhaustion or nausea or aches. I’ve learned a lot of that thru all the beautiful people who have shared their personal stories with me right here on Instagram. Thank you.”

As far as her prognosis, Doherty revealed a conversation she had with her husband Kurt Iswarienko about the reality of the situation.

“I told him, ‘You need to enjoy every single second you have with me because I’m going to be dead in five years,’ and he just burst out in tears.”

As far as how she found out about her prognosis, she told Entertainment Tonight that she found out over the phone, which usually doesn’t happen. Originally patients are brought into the office when they receive bad news, but Doherty said she really couldn’t wait to find out the results.

“‘I’m going to wait until I see him,’ and I just couldn’t. So I picked up the phone and I called him and he was like, ‘Where are you?'”

Although Doherty is fighting for her life, the actress says that this prognosis has only made her marriage to Iswarienko stronger than ever.

“My marriage was always strong, but it’s made my marriage a thousand times stronger. I could not have gotten through this without my husband.”
