Thief Kills Walmart Employee Over $16 In T-Shirts

A Walmart employee was killed on Friday night in Margate, Florida, when he tried to stop a thief from stealing $16 worth of merchandise.

According to MSNBC, Lewis Jhon, 49, was working as a loss prevention officer at the Florida location when Terrell Kennith Johnson allegedly attempted to steal a few packages of undershirts. Jhon confronted Johnson and ended up getting shot at the front of the store.

A witness at the store said: “(After the gunshots) Everybody was scared that something was going to happen to them.”

Jhon was taken to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival.

And the story gets worse.

Johnson, 22, fled the scene by foot. Squad cars from Sunrise, Margate, Coconut Creek and Plantation started searching for him as well as a police helicopter.

Johnson was found dead later that night by police. Margate Police Lt. Andy Zettek said that Johnson died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

According to WSVN, Jhon had worked closely with the police department in the past.

An officer told the TV station:

“The police department worked with him for a number of years and it’s a very sad day tonight. Employees are very saddened. They are grieving the lost of this gentlemen.”

A woman was also arrested at the scene but her involvement in the $16 heist is unknown.
