Roman Reigns Defends WWE Against UFC Star’s Attacks

When it comes to Roman Reigns WWE career, he shares a love-hate relationship with the fans. While the WWE wanted Roman to be the biggest face in the eyes of the fans, many fans turned on him. While women and children still cheer for Reigns, most male fans have been vocal in booing him at most events.

However, when it came to Conor McGregor making comments insulting the entire WWE locker room, it was Roman Reigns who stood up for the WWE. In a Twitter response to McGregor, Reigns simply said that McGregor was “the size of my leg” and proceeded to tell him to shut up.

The Roman Reigns WWE response stemmed from an MMAJunkie.com interview with Conor McGregor. Conor was asked if he would consider joining the WWE after his UFC career ended. McGregor basically used the question to sling insults at the WWE locker room.

“I have thought about it. For the most part, I think these guys are [expletives], to be honest. They’re messed up [expletives], if you ask me. Fair play to Brock [Lesnar]; he got in and fought, but at the end of the day, he was juiced up to the [expletive] eyeballs. How can I respect that? The other guy [CM Punk] hasn’t fought yet, so I don’t know about him yet.”

McGregor did give respect to the McMahon family and Triple H, so he at least didn’t insult the men who could pay him in the future. However, his insults hit the WWE locker room pretty hard. When McGregor went back to Twitter and said he didn’t mean disrespect, he then followed up with the comment that he would “slap the head off your entire show.”

That was all it took for Roman Reigns to step up in defense of the WWE. Roman was the one person that could arguably stand up against McGregor. John Cena couldn’t do it because he is too nice of a guy. However, Reigns is already buried in controversy in the WWE, so maybe a comment like this could raise him a little in the eyes of WWE fans.

Even better was when Kurt Angle stepped up and called Conor a “little guy” and told him to get his “head out of Dana White’s a**.” However, the only other WWE star right now that stood up and said something to McGregor was WWE women’s champion Sasha Banks, who said, “bring it.”

As for Roman Reigns, this could be one step in his rehabilitation process. The WWE has already started working on something that they hope will get Roman back on the fan’s side. With Roman fighting Rusev at SummerSlam, he is basically fighting for America against the Bulgarian who has spent years resulting the U.S.

With the Olympics in full swing, patriotism is going to be at a high, and fans would want to see Rusev finally lose his U.S. title. While Reigns is Samoan by heritage, he was born in Florida and is just as American as his relative Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. Rusev has beaten Mark Henry, Jack Swagger, and an American flag draped Zack Ryder.

John Cena is the best option for the fans, but he has played in this storyline before and a win would do nothing for him. A win for Roman Reigns could reignite his WWE career. The U.S. title is a step down and would take him out of the world title scene for now.

However, as Batista proved last year, even turning bad, which the fans wanted, did not help him and the fans continued to torment him until he left. Hopefully, it isn’t too late for Roman Reigns’ WWE career.
