Tragedy has struck the set of the Johnny Depp starring vehicle The Lone Ranger. A crew member for the movie was working as a diver during a water scene on the Los Angeles city filming set when something went wrong.

Co-workers realized something was wrong and after the man was pulled from the water he went into full cardiac arrest.

First responders confirmed the man’s heart attack and he was eventually airlifted to a nearby hospital.

TMZ reports that EMTs were not able to restart the mans heart during the helicopter transport and he was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.

An investigation is still ongoing to determine what events led to the experienced diver’s death.

Producers have not yet commented on the death and the name of the crew member has not been released to the public.

Injury and death on Hollywood movie sets are rare but they do happen. During the filming of the recently released Transformers 3 an ‘extra’ cast member on the set was hit in the head during a semi-trailer accident, leaving them with brain damage. More notably are the deaths of Brandon Lee on the set of The Crow and Vic Morrow on the set of Twilight Zone – The Movie. 

Updates Below: Law enforcement officials believe the crew member died of a heart attack and they are currently listing the death as a result of “natural causes.”

Walt Disney has since released the following statement:

“We regretfully confirm that a Lone Ranger crew member has passed away after being taken to a local hospital … Our full support is behind the investigation into the circumstances of this terrible event.”
