Kim Kardashian Fascinates Audience At #Blogher16 Conference

On Friday afternoon, Kim Kardashian made a keynote speech at the #Blogher16 conference at the Marriott Hotel in Los Angeles. The room of journalists and bloggers – even those who weren’t huge fans of Kardashian – were beaming with excitement. Kardashian received a huge standing ovation when she arrived on stage.

Kim was first asked what she wanted to do with her profession when she was younger.

“When I was 13-years old, I looked at my best friend – and the show The Real World had just come out. I said to her, ‘That’s what I want to do! I want to be on a reality show!’ I told her she would have to be my manager,” Kardashian said, before noting that her friend is now a manager and Kardashian herself is a reality television star.

Kim revealed how she had always thought her family life was interesting, and there was never a dull moment. Everybody that came into the Kardashian’s lives told them they should be on television. Kardashian said that when she was in high school, she worked at a clothing store since she really wanted to get into fashion. Kardashian then talked about how her father Robert Kardashian inspired her.

“Just watching him was the best learning tool I ever got. Just seeing how he would get up every single day…he would work every day in the office, come home and we’d have our dinner. He was so determined – always talking about new ideas and companies he wanted to start,” Kardashian explained.

Kim Kardashian then talked about her emoji app Kimoji, and that her favorite emoji is her crying face one since it’s so ugly that it’s funny.

“Does anybody have a pretty cry face emoji?” she asked the audience, before revealing that nobody’s can get worse than hers and that there will be some pretty unflattering emojis of family members – ones they don’t know about yet.

Then, Kardashian looked a little stressed when she was asked if people underestimate her, though she said people’s undermining of her hard work and talent doesn’t bother her.

“When somebody underestimates me, I love to get to know them and have them have one conversation with me. I think the easiest question to ask is ‘What does she do? What is her talent?'” Kardashian explained, before joking that her life is easy because she doesn’t have to sing or dance, but makes just as much money and has just as many luxuries as those who do.

Kardashian said that what she does is certainly a full time job, especially since she comes up with her own blog posts, her own emojis, her own Instagram posts, etc. She hit a chord with the audience when she said that people who assume she doesn’t do anything are the same who assume that bloggers just sit at home every day and don’t do much work – there can’t be anything further than the truth. Although Kim said she doesn’t mind getting underestimated, she also understands how it could bother people if they were put in the same situation she is in. Kim said being on a reality show is also a full-time job and that reality shows – in general – don’t get the respect they deserve.

Kardashian also talked about the perception that she overshares and agrees it’s mostly true. She claimed she shares about 85 percent of her life, but the 15 percent she doesn’t share usually deals with her children and that she is very protective of her kids; they are never part of any main story on her reality show. She said that she hasn’t photograph Saint much because she wanted him to be able to go to the park without people bothering him.

Many thought the most important segment was when Kardashian talked about feminism and being a role model. Kardashian revealed that she doesn’t sit around and think about these topics too much; she does what makes her happy and feels confident doing. She realizes that what makes her happy may not be the same for someone else and doesn’t expect people to emulate or agree with everything she does.

After Kim’s elegant interview, several bloggers and photographers rushed to the front of the stage to try and get a selfie with her. Kim obliged, but felt bad that she couldn’t stay for long. Still, being present in the same room with Kardashian for more than 30 minutes was enough to satisfy all the bloggers in the room, most who walked out with huge smiles on their faces.
