Angela Kinsey Engaged: How ‘The Office’ Star’s Boyfriend Involved The Whole Family In The Proposal

Actress Angela Kinsey is getting married!

The 45-year-old actress shared the great news on social media Thursday via Instagram along with a picture of her engagement ring.

According to the caption, Angela Kinsey’s boyfriend proposed to her earlier this week at their home during an apparently well-planned event that they will likely cherish for years to come. What made the proposal so special? Angela’s boyfriend found a creative way to get the whole family involved!

“We were going out to dinner and my daughter said that first she wanted to show me the fort in the backyard that she and my boyfriend’s sons had been working on. She led me outside and there was a blanket by the pool and she said I had to sit on it. His sons brought me flowers and then he came around the corner with a ring.”

Angela further explained in the Instagram post that her boyfriend even went as far as asking her mother for her blessing, adding a touch of tradition to the romantic nature of the memorable moment. In addition to asking for her mother’s blessing and getting their children involved with the surprise proposal, Angela Kinsey’s boyfriend took it a step further with the engagement ring and the sentimental symbolism of its chosen stone.

“The ring is an emerald…all three of our kids’ birthstone. The kids made me cards and pictures and I cried. I cried that happy ugly cry.”

Kinsey finished off her emotionally stirring Instagram post with the celebratory hashtag #gonnagethitched.

The Office actress was first married to writer Warren Lieberstein. The couple filed for divorce in June 2010 in the Los Angeles Superior Court after nearly 10 years of marriage. According to People magazine, the couple separated in February 2009 and filed for joint legal and physical custody of their daughter Isabel Ruby.

Fortunately, even after their marriage was officially over, Angela Kinsey and Warren Lieberstein remained good friends. During a January 2013 interview with the Huffington Post, Kinsey opened up about their friendship and co-parenting.

“I’m really fortunate because my ex and I are very good friends and I talk to him every day,” Kinsey said. “Our daughter is growing up seeing two people who care about each other. We may not be a traditional family on paper but we are a family and I tell her that familes come in all shapes and sizes, but [a family is] love and I see her really flourishing because she sees two people treating each other with respect.”

Angela Kinsey is perhaps best known for her starring role in the hit NBC series The Office. Angela played the stiff and excessively serious senior accountant Angela Martin throughout the show’s nine-season run. When she gave birth to her daughter, Angela was the only mother within the main cast of characters on The Office.

In a December 2010 interview with Redbook magazine, Kinsey claimed that she relied on her mother and three sisters for support as she embarked on her journey as a first-time mother. She stated that her trailer on the set of The Office was set up to spend quality time with her daughter, and had crayons, a toy microwave, and Play-Doh to complete the playroom setup.

“Some days I think, I can do this. I’m a pro. And other days I’m like, I’m lousy at this. I have a special place in my heart for working moms – it’s a constant pull on your heartstrings.”

Since she did not want to be a “takeout mom,” Angela Kinsey also stated that she learned to cook as a new mom. Angela also worked hard to make sure that her daughter was not having all of the fun by herself. During the same interview, she said that they would dress up as princesses, wearing crowns while serving tea and cookies to the stuffed animals.

Now that Angela Kinsey will soon become the wife of a formerly single father, her experience in motherhood will take a major leap forward. Hopefully, she will be able to maintain the same sense of humor and overall determination to be a successful parent for all of her children.
