Would you swim in a dumpster pool?

Firstly, in deference to you, I am going to forgo all jokes about “dumpster diving”- you’re welcome.
Leave it to Brooklyn to pioneer this squicky new trend. As a resident of Brooklyn in the not too distant past, summers there are hellacious. No matter how cutting edge and hip you are, between May and September you spend most of your time quietly seething, envying suburbanites and sweating six gallons of sweat on the F train platform before you even get to work to spend the day marinating in sweat, subway grit and despair. It’s not ironic or cool, it just sucks.
But being all eco-conscious and better than you, Brooklyn is all about repurposing. Enter Macro Sea, a venture that aims to give dumpsters new life as urban swimming pools. After years of housing rotting God-knows-what and discarded bodies on the Lower East Side, dumpsters don’t have to- well, what happens to old dumpsters? I don’t really know. Anyway, they’ve been lined. And there’s chlorine! (Don’t liners ever tear?)
NPR has the lowdown on the whole shebang.
On an industrial lot in Brooklyn, N.Y., three garbage bins have been transformed into swimming pools. They’re set in what looks like an urban country club — with tent cabanas, barbecue grills and a dozen plastic beach chairs…
The pools are behind a chain-link fence in the Carroll Gardens neighborhood. The 5 1/2 foot-deep containers are in an H-formation with a wooden deck built around them. There’s also a shallower kiddie pool.
Of course, being Brooklyn, even the goddamn dumpsters are invite only. Because you can’t have just anyone crashing your dumpster pool. Whatever, I totally was all up in that shit before everyone found out about it. Now it’s all b&t. Me and my peeps just swim in a rather deep puddle off Bedford Ave now, but don’t go posting about it on Williamsboard.
