Beagle Jumps Off Bridge, Survives [Video]

Falling 70 feet into a cold New Jersey river would be a death sentence for most dogs. But Brandi, a 7-year-old Beagle, survived her jump from the Burlington-Bristol Bridge.

According to UPI, Robert Lorenz was walking his dog along the Burlington Riverfront Promenade last Friday night when the dog got loose. Unable to find the dog, Robert returned home to get his wife Alexis. The two spent hours searching for the dog and were eventually told by a Burlington County Bridge police officer that the dog had jumped off the bridge.

According to Officer Rob Bittner, Brandi the Beagle was running over the bridge when a few kids got out of their car in order to save the dog from oncoming traffic. The dog got spooked and ran off the edge of the bridge.

Bittner said:

“Two carloads of young kids got out, tried to rescue the dog and the poor dog went over the side of the bridge because it was afraid of the children… It jumped right over the side of the bridge.”

Sergeant Ray Warmkessel said that he was sure the dog was dead.

Warmkessel said:

“Poor dog… He’s going to be dead. Then we went down underneath the bridge and here’s the dog walking along the beach. I couldn’t believe it. She was wet. She was soaking wet.”

According to ABC, the dog escaped its jump from the bridge with only a minor bruise on its stomach.

Here’s a video of the incident.
