Mariah Carey: Still Hurting Over Nick Cannon Divorce As She Plans Wedding With Australian Billionaire

Mariah Carey has finally opened up about her divorce with Nick Cannon, all while discussing her upcoming plans to marry Australian billionaire James Packer.

In an interview with Complex, the legendary singer admits that her marriage to Nick was bound to come to an end, and that’s despite the fact that Carey did see herself spending the rest of her life with Cannon — especially after welcoming twins into the world.

While she wouldn’t elaborate on what actually caused the couple to separate and divorce, Mariah Carey goes on to tell the magazine that she’s a firm believer of everything happening for a reason. Her marriage with Nick had run its course, and it became evidently clear that the twosome were in a different headspace in the months leading up to their separation.

“I never thought I would have babies with someone and then get divorced. Like, ‘Oh, great job. Repeat your past’,” the mother of two reveals, referring to her previous marriage with record executive Tommy Mottola.

Even then, Mariah mentions that she also saw herself being with Tommy for a lifetime but the rifts that would soon follow seemed unrepairable, especially after reports claimed Mottola was beyond controlling throughout his five-year marriage to the “Hero” songstress, Billboard recalls.

“…life happens and it was supposed to happen. It’s fine. For [#dembabies, Moroccan and Monroe], I wish it hadn’t happened that way,” Mariah Carey is quoted telling the outlet, according to The Shade Room.

And while she admits to having wonderful memories of her time with Nick and the children as one big family, she has accepted the fact that things won’t be the way they used to be. And in Mariah’s book, that may not necessarily be a bad thing, either.

After all, just months after separating with Nick Cannon, the “We Belong Together” hitmaker would tell her millions of fans on social media that she was, in fact, seeing multi-billionaire James Packer. Endless photos of the couple out on yachts and luxurious hotels would surface on the internet, making it clear that the twosome were definitely an item.

Earlier this year, Mariah would go on to confirm that she had accepted Packer’s proposal, who gifted her with a $6 million engagement ring in New York City. When asked on how she would describe her relationship with James and how the duo ended up meeting one another, Carey insists that she wasn’t looking for love when the businessman suddenly came her way.

As for her forthcoming third wedding, Mariah continued by saying, “We would like for it not to be a big thing, but the reality is it has to be because there’s things that are specifically mine, and he’s got huge friggin’ conglomerate stuff and I’m not looking to take that from him. So it has to be dealt with.”

It is unclear whether the wedding is still taking place this year, especially following the news that Mariah has officially signed on to extend her Sweet Sweet Fantasy Tour all the way out to South America, making her work schedule even more hectic than before.

Her highly-anticipated E! docu-series, Mariah’s World, premieres later this year.
