SoKo Embraces Being ‘Underdog’ After Kristen Stewart Breakup

SoKo is known in the United States for being the ex of Kristen Stewart, but she is much more than that. After the breakup, which happened in May, SoKo has received publicity for her work as an actress as well as a musician, songwriter, and more.

But more than anything, she is not willing to let her honesty and vulnerability die in an industry that is filled with gossip and rumors.

When SoKo talked about her upcoming movie, The Dancer, she aligned herself with the character she played, Loie Fuller.

“You see the struggle of being an artist,” SoKo said to New York Magzine. “She’s an underdog and it’s not contrived in selling the idea that once you make it to the top, everything is okay. It’s more honest in showing that even when you get to the top, there’s always somebody new coming up behind you.”

She continued, “It’s especially true today with social media. As soon as you feel like something is viral and it’s the biggest thing ever, everyone’s on to something else.”

The singer-turned-actress must keep the last thing she said pretty close to her heart after experiencing the breakup with a high-profile personality like Kristen Stewart. SoKo was virtually unknown in the U.S. until she stepped out with the 26-year-old American actress, showing the world that the relationship made her very happy.

SoKo, who is not afraid of being vulnerable for the media, said that her relationship with Kristen Stewart fulfilled her.

When she was interviewed by W Magazine, she openly said, “I’m very, very, very in love and very happy in a relationship.”

Kristen and the French singer were frequently seen in full display of love, “looking romantic on a March trip to Paris,” packing”on the PDA while out and about in L.A,” and “Soko even sucked on the actress’ thumb while picking up takeout at a restaurant.”

It was no surprise that the 30-year-old singer looked glum when she had to attend the Cannes Film Festival right after her breakup, where her ex-girlfriend Kristen Stewart was also present.

“Soko appeared downcast as she was pictured out in Cannes on Sunday. Despite party-hopping at the Film Festival this week,” reports the Daily Mail. “The actress failed to raise a smile as she headed to the Three Six Zero Entertainment celebration.”

But it has been a good three months since the breakup, and the French singer is ready to move on. She is focusing on her career as a multifaceted artist to get herself going.

“It’s been very hard but I see it as things that I needed to do to save my life. When I have an idea in my head, there’s no way I can stop thinking about it, and I have to find a way to make it happen,” she said to New York Magazine. “I won’t wait for people to give me my dream.”

Maybe she was also slightly hinting that she won’t wait for people around her to give the fulfillment she needs.

SoKo is in Los Angeles right now to satisfy her wanderlust spirit as well as to get her film career rolling after starring in The Dancer. But that doesn’t mean she is ready to shed her French identity.

Let’s hope that she won’t run into Kristen Stewart and her new girlfriend, Alicia Cargile, anytime soon.

Just because she is on the edge of fame doesn’t mean that SoKo is about to sell herself in Hollywood either. Being a celebrity is something that does not interest her very much.

“I don’t have the life of an actress at all,” she said to Vice. “But last year I had to take a year off of music [because] I did two movies in a row.”
