Will Smith Says Willow Should Lie To Him More [Video]

Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith are known for their unique parenting style (along with their impressive acting careers), but their latest move may have Will in a tizzy. In an interview on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Will Smith explained why he wants his daughter to start lying to him.

The Focus actor shared that he uses a method called the “circle of safety” with his wife and kids. In it, the kids are “allowed to say anything they want” and “tell us anything that they did” with the promise that they won’t get in trouble.

But the method backfired on Will as he’s getting too much information from his daughter, 15-year-old Willow Smith. “As a father, you do not want a circle of safety with a 15-year-old daughter,” said Smith. “You do not. I’m like ‘Baby you need to start lying.'”

In the same interview, Smith also shared how Jaden, 18, “tricked” him into ordering an alcoholic beverage by the name of tequila. (They went to London where the legal drinking age is 18 — but it’s unclear whether or not the teenager was able to acquire said drink.)

The Smith kids, who are often described as being wise beyond their years, already have a number of accomplishments under their belt. Willow has come a long way since her 2010 smash hit, “Whip My Hair.” She’s become a force in the fashion world as a brand ambassador for Chanel as well as the face of the label’s Fall 2016 eyewear campaign. She’s also covered countless magazines.

In Teen Vogue, one of her latest features, the 15-year-old gave some intel on the secrets to her fashionista skills. “I have some cool shoes on and I wear crazy eyeliner, but it’s really all about emulating the colors you feel inside,” she said. “A lot of clothes are cute, but after you buy the Yeezy shoes, after you get your hair done with a weave, you’re still the same person. I feel like more and more kids are starting to realize this.”

Willow also shared some insight on the close relationship she has with her brother. “We’re like binary stars, like two parts of one thing,” she said of Jaden. “I know what he’s thinking at all times. And he knows what I’m thinking. We’re not identical twins, but it feels like that in a lot of ways”

Jaden isn’t without accolades either. The 18-year-old has been breaking gender tropes by donning dresses and skirts while taking a large amount of the criticism as well. Not only did be become the first male to solely cover Nylon, the Pursuit of Happyness actor was also featured in Louis Vuitton’s New Womenswear Campaign. It’s been three years since Jaden starred in a major film, After Earth, and now he seems to be making his return in one of Netflix’s new series, The Get Down. The series will chronicle the 1970s hip-hop culture in New York City. In it, Jaden will play a graffiti writer by the name of Marcus “Dizzee” Kipling.

Smith’s eldest son, Trey, is also making moves as a DJ by the name of AcE. He also recently starred in an ad for Creative Recreation, a sneaker brand based in Los Angeles.

But the kids aren’t the only ones working hard. Will Smith is promoting his upcoming film, Suicide Squad, which follows a group of DC Comics’ villains who get hired by a secret government agency to “save the world.” In the film, Smith plays Deadshot, a hired assassin, who will join characters like The Joker and Harley Quinn to complete the mission.

Jada-Pinkett Smith is also going to be a part of the DC Comics world as she’s returning to her role as Fish Mooney, a villain on FOX’s Gotham. But that’s not all, she’s also slated to appear in the upcoming film, Bad Moms alongside Mila Kunis, Kristen Bell, Kathryn Hahn, and Christina Applegate.
