New Poop-Themed Dessert Café Will Drop Next Month In Canada — Enjoy Decadent Treats That Look Like Crap!

Next month, Canada will open a very unique restaurant that will surely make people question what they are eating despite how good it tastes as its theme will be poop (not literally). That’s right! A new dessert café will serve decadent desserts that look like crap.

According to a report by The Toronto Star, the restaurant — known as the Poop Café Dessert Bar — will serve up food shaped into something people would usually find floating or sinking in the toilet water of their commode. The base foods, however, are far from disgusting as they include chocolate soft-serve ice cream, pudding, and traditional Asian desserts like patbingsoo (shaved ice with red beans and other toppings). They will just all be brown, formed like stool, and served on toilet-shaped dishes.

The Poop Café Dessert Bar, which will be located at 706 Bloor St. West and is expected to open up sometime in the middle of August, was started by Lien Nguyen. When questioned about why she chose to open a poop-themed restaurant, she simply said she wanted to make poop “cute.”

It should be reported that poop-themed dessert cafés and restaurants are not a new idea or concept. According to Eater, there are a number of these novelty and specialty cafés and restaurants in many Asian countries including Taiwan, Moscow, and the Philippines. As a matter of fact, it was when Lien Nguyen visited one of these restaurants, known as Modern Toilet Restaurant, while on an overseas trip she fell in love with the concept and wanted to open such a restaurant back home in Toronto.

“We checked out a toilet-themed restaurant and I just loved it. It’s funny to put food and poop together; it’s a great comparison. It stayed in my mind for a long time. As soon as I finished school, I said, ‘OK, I’m going to bring the restaurant to Toronto.'”

Unfortunately, the concept of a poop-themed dessert restaurant or café is not accepted with open arms here in North America, especially in the United States. In Los Angeles, California, a bathroom-themed restaurant known as the Magic Restroom Café was probably the first to fully utilize the concept. After eight months, it shuttered its windows and closed its doors permanently.

There are exceptions though especially if a prominent name such as Disney is attached to it. In Disney’s Animal Kingdom, there are poop-inspired treats in a café known as Zuri’s Sweet Shop. They offered four different kinds of poop-like desserts for patrons to enjoy once they gathered the courage to bite into them.

  • Giraffe Poop – Rolled fudge brownie with fresh caramel (Shown in Tweet)
  • Elephant Poop – Chocolate peanut butter fudge with sweet rolled oats and yellow coconut flakes on top for texture.
  • Cotton-Top Tamarin Poop – Pretzel pearls coated in peanut butter fudge with rolled oat flakes.
  • Hippo Poop – Chocolate fudge brownie with peanut butter and rolled oats.

And to make the concept of eating “poop” educational, the desserts are a part of the Wilderness Explorer, a park-wide interactive adventure with numerous games for the kids. The desserts are part of the “Match the Species” game in which species are matched to the shape of their feces.

As for Lien Nguyen’s Poop Café Dessert Bar, patrons who are anticipating opening day can only wait to sink their teeth into the poop-like desserts. As for everyone else, they will need to be eased into the concept of eating something that looks like waste that gets flushed down a toilet. However, if it can find its niche’s fandom, it will join other similar restaurants that are still open like the Crazy Toilet Café, Ddong Café, and the Boracay Toilet. The Modern Toilet, which was mentioned earlier as the restaurant Nguyen got her inspiration from, has been open since 2004.
