NFL Rumors: Dallas Cowboys Not Interested In Nick Foles

Sometimes, NFL teams are not as predictable as fans think that they are. According to NBC Sports, the Dallas Cowboys are not interested in Nick Foles. Many were under the assumption that Cowboys owner Jerry Jones would jump at the chance to upgrade one of his biggest positions of concern.

Despite what the Dallas Cowboys continue to say publicly about the matter, Tony Romo is still a concern. If he is not healthy, then the quarterback position is in shambles. The Cowboys certainly would have trouble contending for a spot in the NFL Playoffs, much like they did last season.

With the fourth overall selection in the NFL Draft, many had assumed that the Dallas Cowboys would try to get one of the top quarterbacks coming out of college. Instead, they decided to go a much different route by choosing Ohio State Buckeyes running back Ezekiel Elliott, citing a desire to protect the passing game with his bruising style.

In the fourth round of the NFL Draft, the Dallas Cowboys did pick up a quarterback. They chose Mississippi State Bulldogs star Dak Prescott. He is going to need some seasoning before he is ready to become the starting quarterback for the Cowboys.

Without options that they liked, the Dallas Cowboys are choosing to go with Kellen Moore as their backup quarterback behind Tony Romo. The former Boise State Broncos star only has 104 career attempts. The inexperience might come back to haunt the Cowboys if Romo were to injure his collarbone again.

Knowing that they need a quarterback to get to the NFL Playoffs, the Los Angeles Rams decided to trade up to the first overall spot in the draft. They got their quarterback of the future in California Golden Bears star Jared Goff. Not wanting to miss out on an opportunity to start, Nick Foles requested and received his release, as reported by ESPN.

As soon as Nick Foles was released, the Dallas Cowboys immediately became one of the NFL teams linked to the quarterback. Although he has struggled as of late, Foles has proven that he can be a good player at times.

Another team that is linked to Nick Foles is the San Francisco 49ers. Foles had his best season in the NFL while playing in the high-octane offense that Chip Kelly introduced to the Philadelphia Eagles when he was their head coach. Foles threw for 27 touchdowns with only two interceptions.

With Mark Sanchez currently in line to be the starting quarterback when the regular season begins, the Denver Broncos were another potential destination for Nick Foles. However, Broncos head coach Gary Kubiak stated that Denver was going to go with Sanchez, Trevor Siemien, and Paxton Lynch instead.

The New York Jets might have been interested in signing Nick Foles had he been released by the Los Angeles Rams earlier in the summer. Now that they have finally ended the contract dispute with Ryan Fitzpatrick, the team does not appear to be concerned about the quarterback position.

Since interest in him is low right now, Nick Foles could opt to wait until the season gets underway. Doing that runs the risk of having to learn a playbook on the fly, but it does increase his chances of getting on the field sooner than later. After all, Foles requested a release because he did not want to stand on the sidelines forever.

The odds of Nick Foles wearing a Dallas Cowboys jersey are low right now. However, it is not impossible. If an injury were to happen to Tony Romo, then Jerry Jones might not have a lot of other options available.
