Miami, FL (AHN) – Hurricane Bill continues to intensify in the waters above South America. With sustained wind speeds of 100 miles per hour (160 km/hr), Bill has become a Category 2 storm and is expected to grow stronger over the next two days.

According to experts at the National Hurricane Center (NHC) in Miami, Florida, Bill will likely head west across the Caribbean, but the eye of the storm will miss most islands. By Friday, Bill is expected to begin turning north, where it might head for a Carolina-area landfall by next week.

Bill is currently located about 810 miles east of the Leeward Islands at coordinates: 15.5N 49.7W. The storm is traveling west-northwest at about 17 mph (28 km/hr).
