One of America’s top porn stars, Sunny Leone, makes her acting debut in Bollywood’s raunchy Jism 2, which opened Friday. The film revolves around a porn star played by Leone who is hired by an intelligence officer to entrap a dangerous assassin.

Jism 2, Hindu for “body,” has been a subject of media interest ever since producer and writer Mahesh Bhatt offered the 31-year-old Canadian-born porn star the lead in the film after she participated in the Indian version of Big Brother last year, reports The Hollywood Reporter. He made the offer to Leone, born to Indian parents, on live TV, which also generated a significant amount of interest.

Mumbai’s mayor fueled controversial interest in Leone’s role when he ordered that Jism 2 posters be removed from city buses, because they were “objectionable and vulgar.”

Leone was named 2003 Penthouse Pet of the Year, leading to a contract with Vivid Entertainment. Maxim magazine voted her as one of the top 12 porn stars in 2010. She runs her own Sunlust Pictures adult entertainment studio with her husband Daniel Weber. “I am not ashamed of my past,” Leone said in an interview, calling her Bollywood debut a “great opportunity.”

Reviews are in, and the film seems to be less raunchy than you might expect. “Jism 2 is a sexy movie – but it’s not as dirty a picture as you might expect,” said a review in The Times of India newspaper. “Surprisingly, Jism 2 hovers over sex, like a butterfly gliding across one of the many water pools the movie features. The few times the film does jump in, it lands in the shallow end.”
