Nina Dobrev Not Interested In ‘The Vampire Diaries’

The Vampire Diaries Season 8 is still in the production stage, but the show’s former lead, Nina Dobrev, has confirmed that she is not making her comeback in the last season.

Dobrev left The Vampire Diaries after Season 6 to pursue her career in the film industry. Her departure from the show has made the series come face to face with poor ratings. However, in her earlier interview with Michael Pena for Interview Magazine, Ian Somerhalder’s former girlfriend stated that when she started filming for TVD’s Season 1, she had decided that she would not be extending her contract. Furthermore, she considered TVD as a learning stage of her life but realized in the very beginning that she wouldn’t reprise her character after she left the series.

“I had decided years before that I’d go the run of my contract and I wouldn’t extend, but it was a surprise for everyone else that didn’t know that. I always knew that I’d signed up for a certain amount of time and I fulfilled it. I had a great experience, but everything has to come to an end and this was my time. It’s like high school, you do four years and then you move onto the college.”

Does this mean that Nina Dobrev is not coming back to the show?

Well, the representatives of The CW and the crew of TVD announced that Season 8 of The Vampire Diaries would be its last. Ever since then, fans have been speculating about the possibility of Dobrev’s return in the show, either as Elena or Katherine. Contrary to Dobrev’s earlier interviews, Somerhalder and Plec have finally teased the xXx actress comeback.

During the ongoing San Diego Comic Con 2016, TVD’s executive producer, Plec, revealed that fans can expect Dobrev’s return in Season 8.

“Not to put too much pressure on anything Nina Dobrev, but a promise was made. An emotional promise that I’d like to see come to life.”

Plec went on to say during the announcement that they all have made promises to their viewers about friendship, and now it is their chance to fulfill those promises.

Earlier, it was Plec herself who revealed via her interview with TV Line that she understand Dobrev is extremely busy with her upcoming films, but The CW will do everything to bring her back for one last time. In her recent interview with BuddyTV, the showrunner revealed that when the actress left the show, she made a promise to her that she would come back when the show was in its last stages.

“I’m sure she intends on living up to it as well. We just have to figure it out: the how, the when, the what,” Plec added when asked about Dobrev’s return. “It would be a real tragedy if we couldn’t bring that story back around full-circle.”

A source close to the show also revealed that Dobrev owed it to the show and the least she could do is to feature again for one last time. The insider revealed via Hollywood Life that if Dobrev comes back, then there are chances that The CW won’t cancel the fantasy drama series.

“When the show ends Nina will be a part of it some way shape or form. She is 10,000 percent coming back. The show did so much for their careers and put them on the map. For Julie Plec and the other writers and creators. They feel like they owe it to them to suck it up and send the show off any way they want to send it off.”

This all being said, nothing is still confirmed whether Nina Dobrev will make her comeback in Season 8 of The Vampire Diaries. However, if she will make her return, then it will be very emotional for all the viewers who have been following the supernatural series for the past seven years.
