August PS Plus Games For PlayStation 4 Include ‘Rebel Galaxy’

Whenever we get to this part of the month, it’s time to find out what free games are coming to the PlayStation 4 thanks to the PS Plus program. This time around, it turns out PS4 users are going to get Rebel Galaxy, as well as Tricky Towers.

Those are the two games specifically geared toward the PlayStation 4. There is a third game that is geared towards both the PS4 and the Vita known as Ultratron. Of the three games on the PS4 listing, Rebel Galaxy is likely the biggest draw.

There has been quite a bit of mention about the title that allows players to battle their way through space and even trade materials at various stations. Tricky Towers, on the other hand, is one of the newest games listed in the lineup for PS Plus titles for August.

Ultratron is available for cross play on the PlayStation 4, as well as the PlayStation 3 and the PlayStation Vita. This type of game has been one that has been offered on PS Plus before, but it isn’t always a title that can be played on all three systems.

While Rebel Galaxy has gotten a decent amount of attention from the gaming public in general, most are saying this marks the second straight month where Sony’s offerings seem a bit underwhelming. In June, the blockbuster offering was NBA 2K16, but there hasn’t been an AAA title listed in the July or August offerings.

The PlayStation blog announced the lineup for next month’s titles, which will go live as being totally free next Tuesday. One of the interesting things about the top-billed game is the description sounds quite a bit about another much-anticipated space exploration game which will finally be arriving on the PS4 in August.

“Suit up and take command in this space combat RPG from developer Double Damage. Take the helm of a massive destroyer as you make your reputation through trade, by being a work-for-hire mercenary or a swashbuckling pirate. In a procedurally generated universe, no two star systems are the same, and there’s always something new to discover. So take the helm, prepare for battle, and have a blast with Rebel Galaxy.”

Those who have been paying attention might notice the description sounds an awful lot like No Man’s Sky. That space exploration game is coming exclusively to the PS4 on August 9.

That game was supposed to launch simultaneously on the Sony PS4 and the PC. Hello Games reportedly pushed back its release for the PC.

PlayStation Lifestyle reports No Man’s Sky isn’t coming to the PC until August 12. Those who might be getting nervous apparently don’t need to worry as the console version hasn’t been bumped back, at least not yet.

It’s still kind of interesting that Rebel Galaxy, though not a game many thinks of as anywhere close to a clone or No Man’s Sky, is coming to PS Plus one week earlier.

At the very least, it appears Sony is taking advantage of an interest in space exploration. Considering Headlander just launched this week, and it appears Science Fiction is the name of the game for a few weeks when it comes to PlayStation games.

When it comes to the PlayStation 3, the headliner game is going to be Yakuza 5. The series, in general, has been one that has been quite popular among a certain segment of gamers. Even still, it’s not a real impressive lineup for the PS3 games either.

Of course, when you’re talking about a stable of titles that are all entirely free, the old adage of “beggars can’t be choosers” seems to apply. At least PlayStation 4 users will get their hands on Rebel Galaxy in a week.
