Seth Meyers: Bernie Or Bust Movement ‘You Have To Be Quiet Now’ [Video]

A message was delivered to Democratic National Convention attendees by the host of the eponymously titled Late Night with Seth Meyers: Bernie or Bust movement supporters, “You have to be quiet now,” Meyers stated to his audience, as hosted with YouTube.

Reaction to Meyers’ Bernie or Bust comments on social media were mixed.

“I will never vote for Hillary. Stealing the election cements that even more,” Carlene Meyers tweeted.

Others appeared to recognize what Meyers appears to believe is a need for unity within the Democratic party by quoting Meyers’ late-night talk.

“I don’t know which class you ditched to go to those Bernie rallies, but I have a feeling it was history,” Melissa Dunn tweeted the comedian’s words.

Yesterday, at the beginning of the official DNC roll call, Bernie or Bust and other Sanders supporters could still be heard chanting “Bernie!” as reported by USA Today. At that point, the roll call was merely a formality — there was little doubt that Hillary Clinton would become the nominee.

Seemingly moving to acknowledge both his vast base of supporters as well appease what appears to be his true desire to see unity within the party, Bernie Sanders spoke.

“I move that the convention suspend the procedural rules… And I move that Hillary Clinton be selected as the nominee for the Democratic Party.”

Seth Meyers noted that on the first night of the DNC, messages of “unity” were spoken by Elizabeth Warren, Michelle Obama, and Bernie Sanders himself, and that a “small percentage” of Sanders supporters, Meyers singled-out the Bernie or Bust movement, were chanting and booing throughout the proceedings.

In honor of the Bernie of Bust supporters at the DNC, Meyers announced the start of a new Late Night segment entitled, Hey!

“Hey! What’s going on?” Meyers asked the Late Night audience. The comedian stated that there was more “white booing” at the DNC than in a Casper the Friendly Ghost movie, to laughs from the audience.

Meyers stated that “bust” has won and that the DNC doesn’t “have time for this.”

“The house in on fire. Stop crying because we’re not putting it out with your hose,” the host said sharply. He also noted that Donald Trump is ahead in polls. Currently, Real Clear Politics has poll averages showing Clinton and GOP nominee Donald Trump neck and neck, with 40.4 and 40.2 percent of voter support, respectively.

The most recent poll conducted by the Economist/YouGov indicated Trump leading Clinton by 5 percentage points: 44 to 39.

Meyers continued that if the poll trends continue, the United States will be on the “cusp” of appointing a “racist demagogue” as president. More than one observer has made comparisons between Nazi leader Adolf Hitler and Donald Trump. American Thinker suggested that Hitler may even have had a more “commanding presence” and “dignity” than Donald Trump when he appeared in 1934-Nazi propaganda film, Triumph of the Will.

Comparing similarities between Trump’s public presentation, perhaps most evident at the Republican National Convention, and Hitler’s, would not seem unreasonable.

Meyers suggested that Bernie or Bust supporters who, after surveying their “yoga class” and “drum circle,” are unable to find other Americans who support Donald Trump think of their uncle that they only see at Thanksgiving.

“This country is about 48 percent… uncles,” Meyers joked to guffaws from the audience. “And it’s about to be Thanksgiving, all day, every day.”

Meyers also noted that, because of the unwavering efforts of the Bernie or Bust movement, Bernie Sanders is going to have to continue to campaign for Hillary until the November elections, attempting to unify the party. The late night comedian listed two reasons he believes Sanders shouldn’t have to do this.

  1. Bernie Sanders “hates” Clinton.
  2. Bernie Sanders should be relaxing on a “well-earned vacation.”

The host then empathized with the disappointment felt by Bernie or Bust movement supporters and likened it to his own with his inability to attract Rihanna as a dating partner and the fact that he is able to continue to refrain from “booing” his wife as a result.

Seth Meyers lauded Bernie Sanders supporters’ “passion” and the fact that they “changed” the party, which he said was “no small thing.” The host then stated that Bernie or Bust movement members should be proud, and continued.

“You have to be quiet now,” Meyers said in a halting manner, expressing his, and perhaps what he perceives as others’, exasperation with events at the DNC.
