Elizabeth Banks And Other Celebs Sing ‘Fight Song’ By Rachel Platten At DNC 2016 In Support Of Hillary Clinton’s Campaign

Hillary Clinton’s campaign was given a big boost during the second night of the Democratic National Convention from a number of celebrities, including Elizabeth Banks. As well as taking to the stage in support of Clinton, the Hunger Games star also released a video featuring herself and a number of other Hollywood faces singing “Fight Song” by Rachel Platten, in what is arguably the biggest show of celebrity support yet for the new Democratic nominee, Hillary Clinton.

According to Variety, the video produced by Elizabeth Banks, Bruce Cohen and Mike Tompkins clearly, takes inspiration from the Pitch Perfect movies. In an all-out showing of Hollywood support for Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, names including Aisha Tyler, Alan Cumming, America Ferrera, Elizabeth Banks, Eva Longoria, Idina Menzel, Jane Fonda, Kristin Chenoweth, Mandy Moore, Renee Fleming, Rob Reiner, and Sia all joined forces to support Hillary Clinton’s fight for the presidency.

Quite impressively, the entire video was made with sounds from the celebrities’ voices with no backing track. The rendition of “Fight Song” by Rachel Platten draws a number of similarities to a scene expected of a Pitch Perfect movie, and that’s no surprise considering Elizabeth Banks is one of the franchise’s leading stars.

Aside from the big names listed above, the video also featured appearances from Rachel Platten herself and a number of other artists. What’s more, Elizabeth Banks didn’t ignore the small screen when producing the track, with stars from Modern Family, The West Wing, and Friday Night Lights also making an appearance. Scottish actor Alan Cumming even made a cameo appearance towards the end of the video, bringing his dog out in support of Hillary Clinton.

The Democratic party never struggles to bring out celebrities in support of its candidate, however. According to Time, this rendition of “Fight Song” by Elizabeth Banks draws similarities to “Yes We Can” produced by will.i.am in support of Barack Obama’s candidacy in 2008, which also featured a similar scope of celebrities. However, it could be argued that Elizabeth Banks’ choice of song is a little less thought-provoking and a little more upbeat than will.i.am’s choice of a soundtrack in 2008.

The second night of the 2016 Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia was undeniably a star-studded affair. Hosted by Elizabeth Banks herself, the night saw both Bill Clinton and Meryl Streep take to the stage in support of Hillary Clinton.

However, it was Elizabeth Banks herself who is claimed to have stolen the show. The Hillary Clinton supporter used her entrance to mock Donald Trump’s entrance at the Republican National Convention, using the same walk on music, “We Are the Champions” by Queen, whilst mocking Trump with her actions. Banks continued by using her speech to speak about how Hillary Clinton had inspired her own career, further discussing her own roots in Massachusetts and a 1992 Bill Clinton rally that she attended with her husband.

It currently remains unclear whether or not Banks had the right to use “We Are the Champions” as part of her appearance at the Democratic National Convention. Republican nominee Donald Trump was slammed by Queen for using the track as his walk-on music without their permission. However, the band is yet to comment on Elizabeth Banks’ use of the song, suggesting that the actress likely gained permission from the band to use their most iconic track as part of her appearance.
