‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Actor Harrison Ford Could Have Been Killed

All of the excitement surrounding the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens may have caused fans to forget that one of the Star Wars franchise’s biggest names was injured on the set during filming, but Harrison Ford hasn’t forgotten. It’s likely that Walt Disney Studios will never forget the incident either, considering a dispute has forced one of the corporation’s subsidiaries to admit fault in the Star Wars actor’s accident. The accident, which caused serious injury to Ford, took place over two years ago. It was determined that Harrison, a long-time staple of the Star Wars franchise as well as a veteran actor, was injured on the set of Star Wars: The Force Awakens due to unsafe working conditions.

Foodles Productions Found Guilty In Harrison Ford Accident On Set Of Star Wars: The Force Awakens

In reporting on the findings of a British court in regards to Harrison Ford’s The Force Awakens accident, BBC reveals that that Foodles Productions was the actual name of the production company responsible for filming the Star Wars film and that the odd company name was chosen to divert Star Wars fans away from the film’s shooting schedule. In any case, Foodles Productions was responsible for filming Star Wars: The Force Awakens and was, therefore, responsible for ensuring that safe workplace practices were employed on set. For this reason, a British court has found the company guilty of two criminal charges, related to Ford’s accident.

Foodles has reportedly been in full cooperation with authorities investigating Ford’s accident since it occurred and has issued a statement.

“The safety of our cast and crew was always a top priority throughout the production.”

Britain’s Health and Safety Executive office, the workplace safety regulator, has released a statement in regard to their investigation of the accident resulting in the injury of Harrison Ford.

“During the filming of Star Wars Episode Seven: The Force Awakens, the actor Harrison Ford was badly injured after he became trapped under a rapidly closing metal-framed door. The power of the door’s drive system was comparable to the weight of a small car,” reads the statement in part.

The findings of the investigation reveal that Ford’s accident could have been prevented through minimal precautions.

“This was a foreseeable incident. Foodles Production (UK) Ltd has accepted it failed to protect actors and staff and HSE welcomes the firm’s guilty plea.”

Harrison Ford Opens Up About The Accident That Could Have Claimed His Life

This past December, Harrison talked openly about his accident and resulting injury on the set of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, reports The New York Times. The 74-year-old Star Wars actor spoke about the incident on The Jonathan Ross Show, making light of the incident by remarking that, prior to the present technology, the door in which he became pinned would have been operated by a pulley system.

“But now we had lots of money and technology, and so they built a great f*****g hydraulic door which closed at light speed,” Harrison added.

Ford reveals that the accident happened as he was speaking to director J.J. Abrams, prior to filming the scene. The door came down on Ford’s hip because an unknown person pressed a button to release the door, unwittingly.

“Somebody said, ‘I wonder what this is,'” Ford said, mimicking the push of a button.

Prosecutors say that their investigation suggests Ford could have been killed and that the accident wasn’t more serious, only because someone on set had pushed an emergency stop button. The emergency stop cut power to the door’s operation, saving Harrison Ford’s life.

The court will determine Foodles’ penalty on August 22.
