‘Sons Of Anarchy’ Star Charlie Hunnam Confirms He Will Not Appear In ‘SOA’ Prequel

Fans finally know if Charlie Hunnam will reprise his role as Jax Teller in Kurt Sutter’s Sons of Anarchy prequel. Sadly, it doesn’t sound like Hunnam will be back in his SAMCRO jacket anytime soon.

According to WUSA 9, Hunnam revealed that he is not going to return for the prequel during an interview at San Diego Comic-Con.

“I do believe it is happening,” Hunnam stated. “But I don’t think I’m a part of it, because I wasn’t born when that was happening.”

Although Hunnam won’t be riding in Sutter’s motorcycle world in the near future, he did confirm the prequel’s existence.

“I believe it’s sort of like an origin of motorcycle culture in America,” he continued. “I’m really just making it up, because I don’t know any facts.”

Hunnam was attending Comic-Con for his role in Guy Ritchie’s upcoming movie, King Arthur: Legend of the Sword.

Meanwhile, this isn’t the first time Hunnam has talked about Sutter’s continued work on Sons of Anarchy. According to Game N Guide, the actor revealed that Brad Pitt might play his father, John Teller, in the prequel.

“Kurt is trying to get it going. Did you read that about Brad Pitt playing my dad?” Hunnam explained during an interview with Men’s Journal. “Brad Pitt as John Teller. How awesome would that be?”

Sutter has already revealed some of the plot points for the Sons of Anarchy prequel. The series is expected to pick up in the 1960s, when the founding members of the Sons of Anarchy Motorcycle Club, Redwood Original, first came together.

It isn’t known how long the series is planned or how far in the future it will last.

As fans will recall, John Teller was a big part of the Sons of Anarchy story, though he was never included in the original show.

According to Ecumenical News, Hunnam’s involvement is partly due to his expanding career in the movie industry. With Hunnam starring in films like King Arthur and The Lost City of Z, his busy schedule would make it hard to find time for a television series.

Speaking of King Arthur, it sounds as though Hunnam will be injecting some of Jax Teller into the role. In fact, he told Entertainment Weekly that his version of the legendary character is a bit more streetwise than other renditions.

“He is a bit rough around the edges, but he is basically a survivor,” Hunnam shared. “There is definitely a harder edge than people would imagine.”

It isn’t known when the prequel will premiere or how far Sutter is in the development process.

With Hunnam now out of the mix for a possible prequel, at least Sons of Anarchy fans will see some of their favorite characters return when the Mayans MC spin-off airs on FX.

According to Christian Today, the spin-off will focus on one of SAMCRO’s biggest rivals and will feature the return of Emilio Rivera as Marcus Alvarez.

Alvarez was the leader of the Mayans throughout all seven seasons of Sons of Anarchy. It isn’t known which other characters from the original will appear in the spin-off.

Along with revealing that the spin-off is currently in the works, Sutter also talked about hiring Elgin James as co-creator. Apparently, Sutter needed some help to tell the story of Latino biker helper and hired James to help write the series.

“I wanted to find a strong, unique Latino voice. Because I didn’t think a white guy from Jersey should be writing about Latin culture and traditions. Elgin is that voice,” Sutter explained.

An official premiere date for the spin-off has not been released, though production is expected to start in the coming months.
