Selena Gomez Mocked By Whoopi Goldberg For Feeling ‘Unauthentic,’ ‘Get Over Yourself!’ [Video]

It looks like Whoopi Goldberg may not be the biggest fan or Selena Gomez, or her social media posts.

During the July 25 episode of The View, Goldberg appeared to put Selena on serious blast following a recent candid social media post, in which Gomez admitted told her more than 91 million Instagram followers that she felt “unauthentic” and “unconnected” following a concert just one day after her 24th birthday.

Speaking out about Selena’s post on the ABC daytime talk show, Goldberg had little sympathy for Gomez’s Instagram confession, instead telling the “Same Old Love” singer to “get over yourself.”

Whoopi explained Selena’s social media post on The View, mimicking a valley girl accent as she told the audience.

“She’s on a really successful tour right now,” Goldberg said, “but after a recent performance, she posted that she feels extremely ‘unauthentic’ and ‘unconnected’ to herself and to her music and to her needs, you know?”

“Maybe she needs to rethink some of the areas of her life,” Goldberg continued, before telling Selena, “I saw maybe you just had a bad night. That happens. That happens!”

“Because everything gets posted now,” Whoopi continued, referring to social media and possibly Selena’s recent achievement of becoming the most followed person in the history of Instagram, “and then everybody responds to the posts.”

“Some nights are like that where you just feel like ‘I’m the biggest phony,'” Goldberg then continued to her The View co-hosts, including regulars Paula Faris and Joy Behar, of Gomez, “and then you go to bed and you wake up the next morning and think, ‘I’m so cute!'”

According to The Mirror, Whoopi then continued to give her two cents on Selena’s social media message on the daytime show, telling Gomez in lieu of her social media post, “Get over yourself.”

A number of social media users took to social media following Whoopi Goldberg’s apparent Selena Gomez call out, slamming Whoopi for “dragging” Gomez on the talk show.

“I don’t like how Whoopi mocked Selena’s words or how Joyce is thinking she’s ‘complaining,'” Twitter user @iloveselgo wrote regarding the segment, while @tommyknowles_ tweeted out, “Whoopi dragging Selena Gomez lmfaoooo.”

Whoopi’s Selena slam came just days after Gomez took to Instagram to post a heartfelt message to her fans about feeling “extremely unauthentic” and “unconnected” just one day after her 24th birthday.

Tonight I felt extremely unauthentic, unconnected to both myself and my music,” Gomez wrote on Instagram following a stop on her ‘Revival tour’ in Indonesia on July 23.

“I’ve never really felt like my materials, wardrobe or video could define me,” Selena continued, “I’m stagnant, I stay still and don’t just sit with myself first and ask ‘is this where I am, whole heartedly?'”

Selena then told fans in the post, which has received more than 1.2 million likes in the two days following its upload, “I’ve always told the truth, I’m always true to my word, I’ve shown who I am but I need to rethink some areas of my life creatively and personally.”

“Had to get that out,” Gomez signed off the message.

Selena then captioned the Instagram photo, which was a screenshot of her lengthy message about life, “not being negative about anything I’ve done. I’m grateful for every single moment I get here — Indonesia you were LOUD and clearly inspiring. Love you so much.”

Selena is yet to respond to Whoopi’s comments on her social media confession.
