T.R. Knight Returns To Shondaland And ABC In Two New Shows, Seven Years After Leaving ‘Grey’s Anatomy’

T.R. Knight is returning to Shondaland, according to TV Line. The 43-year-old actor, who quit Shonda Rhimes’s Grey’s Anatomy seven years ago, has been cast on ABC’s The Catch.

T.R. Knight, who played the role of Dr. George O’Malley on ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy, is returning to ABC with a recurring role in Season 2 of the Shonda Rhimes-created series The Catch. However, no further details about his role have been given by the show’s creators, other than showrunner Allan Heinberg saying the role “was created and written especially for him.”

This means that Shonda Rhimes liked working with T.R. Knight now that she has invited the actor to star in her ABC show. In fact, in her recent statement shortly after the casting announcement, Rhimes revealed it had been “a thrilling secret,” and that she is excited that one of her “favorite family members” returned home.

The Catch, which stars Mireille Enos and Peter Krause, is set to air its second season at midseason on Thursdays at 10/9c.

T.R. Knight was more than happy to be cast in a Rhimes series, saying in the statement that working with her fills him with “immense joy.”

“I am heartened to be returning to Shondaland and excited to work with this exceptional cast.”

T.R. Knight was with the Grey’s Anatomy‘s cast during the show’s best seasons, many fans say. And ever since he wrapped his fifth season on the Rhimes-created series, he has guest-starred on NBC’s Law & Order: SVU and had a recurring role on CBS’ The Good Wife.

This year, T.R. Knight appeared in a miniseries adapted from Stephen King’s science fiction thriller 11.22.63. The 43-year-old actor also recently wrapped filming on the ABC miniseries When We Rise, which aired on midseason.

Just recently, T.R. Knight has been cast in a yet another ABC’s project, Reese Witherspoon’s divorce drama pilot, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The former Grey’s Anatomy actor is set to star in the divorce drama produced by Witherspoon.

The untitled TV show is centered around Gemma, a Dallas-based divorce attorney whose life takes an unexpected turn when her love-addicted sister shows up and reveals all kinds of their family secrets that have been buried for decades.

T.R. Knight is set to play Mark, an associate lawyer working at Gemma’s law firm who leads everybody to think that he is sloppy. But Mark has a bigger plan – to steal Gemma’s position at the firm by sticking his nose into her cases.

It means that T.R. Knight will work on two ABC projects at the same time, Rhimes-created The Catch and the Witherspoon-produced untitled divorce drama. The actor returns to the network seven years after he was last seen on Grey’s Anatomy.

T.R. Knight’s character on Grey’s Anatomy was killed off after five seasons after allegedly asking the show’s creators to terminate his contract a year earlier. Back then, the actor explained his decision saying there was a “breakdown in communication” with Rhimes, he didn’t get enough screen time and his decision to come out as gay.

T.R. Knight’s character’s death on the ABC drama is still considered to be one of the most surprising deaths on the show. His role of Dr. George O’Malley on Grey’s Anatomy earned the actor a supporting actor Emmy nomination.

T.R. Knight is currently co-starring in Stephen King miniseries titled 11.22.63. The actor recently finished his Broadway show It’s Only a Play. In fact, Knight’s role in the upcoming divorce drama will be his first broadcast series regular role after leaving Grey’s Anatomy.

Meaghan Oppenheimer, a writer for Fear the Walking Dead, is set to write the script for the upcoming divorce drama starring T.R. Knight, as well as executive produce it alongside Witherspoon and Bruna Papandrea.
