Rep: Justin Bieber Did Not Refuse Film Role With Male Sex Scene, As It Wasn’t Offered

A bogus gossip story alleging Justin Bieber refused an alleged role for a movie-in-the-works titled Uber Girl which required the singer to do a “sex scene with another guy” has been debunked.

The ever-reliable Gossip Cop has set the record straight on a story in Tuesday’s edition of the New York Post, which ran with the sensationalist headline “Justin Bieber refuses sex scene with another guy,” and went on to allege the superstar demanded a “major rewrite” to remove an alleged male-on-male sex scene.

However, as is too often the case with gossip blather, the story is nonsense. Gossip Cop confirms Bieber’s rep told the rumor-busting outlet that claims that the Grammy winner has been in talks for the proposed film and wanted a script rewrite “never happened.”

It’s worth noting Bieber’s rep wouldn’t go on record with a denial if there were any evidence of communication between the parties. In short: the story is false.

Bieber’s rep further states that the pop star isn’t connected to Uber Girl in any way and there is “no truth” to Page Six’s post.

Columnist Richard Johnson claimed the movie’s co-writer, Pete O’Neill, told the tabloid that Bieber was “offered the role of a young pop star in ‘Uber Girl,” which is allegedly now making the rounds in Hollywood.

O’Neill alleged, “He [Bieber] won’t take the part unless the sex scene with him and one of the male backup dancers is taken out of the final script.” But, as is now known, that claim is not true.

Even without Bieber’s rep revealing the non-veracity of the story, details in the Post’s report are tellingly scant.

While it’s claimed that Cinema Epoch — the independent production company behind the film — is still searching for a major studio to co-produce the project, Johnson reports O’Neill wants to cast “Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande and Kiernan Shipka,” but none of them have been approached. It is also hard to believe Bieber would say he was interested in a gay role then demand a total change of premise.

Gossip Cop noted that while the Post isn’t the worst offender for bad dish, its sourcing for Bieber stories does leave room for improvement. The watchdog outlet reports it corrected the tabloid a couple of years ago when it wrongly claimed Bieber was spending $1 million a month and almost “broke.” Yet, according to recent and previous Forbes reports the singer has millions in the bank.

It’s possible, if not likely, that Justin Bieber’s name is being used by O’Neill to ramp up buzz for Uber Girl by taking advantage of the heartthrob’s proven clickbait value.

And, of course, it goes without saying that even if the Biebs has been offered an alleged film role, which includes a sex scene with a male, there’s no reason why it should be newsworthy if he refused. Further, the implication in this false story that it was (fictionally) due to a sex scene between two men, is particularly uncalled for seeing as Bieber scolded homophobic Instagram trolls last year after he posted a video showing him lightly kissing a bodyguard on the cheek. In his caption Bieber chided ignorant commenters, clarifying, “I’m not gay but even if I was that’s not an insult.”

When asked about his faith during an interview with Complex magazine last October, the singer said, “I think that everybody should get their chance to share what they’re doing or where their journey is headed, whether they’re straight or gay or what they believe in. We’re in a place now in 2015 where people have gotta be open-minded.”

More recently, Bieber’s tribute to the Pulse nightclub shooting victims in Orlando at his concert in the city in July this year, was evidently moving.

Even imagining, hypothetically, that Bieber was offered a film role calling for a gay sex scene, he should obviously be free to decline or accept that role based on his own reasons — such as feeling able to credibly bring a part to life, scheduling, or whatever — without being accused of homophobia by Twitter SJWs.

Either way, the pop icon didn’t refuse to do a “sex scene with another guy” for Uber Girl. As the Canadian’s rep has stated, there is “no truth” to the claim that the singer was asked to play a movie role and Bieber did not demand a “major rewrite” as he was never approached about a part in the first place.
