Chase McNary Explains His Angry Reaction After Being Let Go By ‘Bachelorette’ JoJo Fletcher

Chase McNary did not go quietly. While he was one of the less vocal suitors on JoJo Fletcher’s season of The Bachelorette, Chase didn’t hold back after the brunette beauty sent him home shortly after he accepted an invite to the fantasy suite during the overnight dates in Thailand.

Indeed, Chase McNary became angry and stormed off in an expletive-filled rant after he was let go, calling Fletcher out for leading him on after he told her he loved her. Chase questioned why The Bachelorette star would invite him up to the fantasy suite just to dump him. He also said he “100 percent” regretted saying those three little words to JoJo.

“I guess ‘I love you’ equals get the f**k out!” Chase spewed.

While he returned the next day to tell JoJo his reaction was just due to shock and that he wishes her all the best, Chase McNary’s Bachelorette breakup goes down as one of the worst in the franchise’s history. In an interview with E! News, Chase explained why he reacted the way that he did.

“To go from being on the highest levels of joys with somebody and so excited to confess your love to them and then for that to be the ultimate reason why you’re going home, I mean it was pure shock, it was pain, it hurt,” Chase told E! “It took a couple of nights, a couple of weeks and definitely a lot of thought to get over that.”

McNary also explained that after he slept on it, he decided that he didn’t want his last conversation with Fletcher to be the angry aftermath of their breakup. Chase said he felt it was important to have one last conversation with The Bachelorette star to clear the air before he headed back to the States.

“I’m grateful I was able to do that at that final rose ceremony, just to get a little bit better closure,” Chase said. “Nobody wants to end a relationship on an angry feel, that’s just not my way. I just wanted to tell her I was proud of her and she was doing the best she could do, I know that. I don’t like the result, I still think she was wrong!”

Chase McNary told ABC News that he regrets his initial reaction to JoJo’s decision to send him home.

“I think at that moment I was ultimately just in so much shock and despair and confusion,” Chase explained. “Because the whole day prior to that and the whole hometown prior to that went so well that why would it go so wrong? So for it to be on such a high note to end on such a hard note, I was in shock and I reacted in a way I wish I wouldn’t have.”

McNary explained that after he woke up the next morning, he had a long talk with the show’s producers, who filled him in on the fact that JoJo was also struggling with how things went down between them. McNary decided he needed to get the closure right away and not wait months for the Men Tell All taping. Chase said he was glad producers let him return to smooth things over and he said that last conversation with JoJo was important to him. McNary also made it clear that he didn’t go back with the hopes that JoJo would offer him a second chance.

“I’m a calm guy. I’m an understanding guy. I know the situation,” Chase said. “I just didn’t want her to have that on her shoulders going into one of the biggest decisions of her life.”

Now, Chase McNary and fellow rejected suitor Luke Pell are both in line to headline the next season of The Bachelor. While Pell told Entertainment Tonight that he would jump at the chance to star on the show, Chase said he’s not quite as sure.

“The discussions are there,” McNary revealed. “But I don’t know — there’s a lot of weight there. There [are] a lot of expectations and I’m not scared of it… but I definitely want to make the smart decision and the right decision before I totally accept that position.”

Chase told ET he had never said “I love you” first in a relationship before saying it to JoJo. He admitted he puts up a wall, and said if he did take on The Bachelor role that would be something he would have to work on.

“[As the Bachelor] you’re put in the microscope of America and that’s scary,” Chase said. “I wasn’t exactly the most open guy about my feelings, and going into being the Bachelor … that’s something I would definitely have to work on.”
