‘Stranger Things’ Season 2 Date: Netflix Series Isn’t Ending Soon As Producers Discuss Several Seasons Planned With New Cast

Stranger Things Season 2 is now all but confirmed, with fans of the show expecting Netflix to bring the series back next year. However, the show’s producers have now confirmed that the incredibly popular new Netflix show Stranger Things has several more seasons in it. Whilst Netflix is yet to formally confirm the show will even receive a second season, it looks increasingly likely according to the show’s producers and cast, especially considering the first season’s popularity.

According to Screen Crush, the producers of the Netflix original are now planning beyond Stranger Things‘ second season. However, the producers did acknowledge that it would be difficult to continue Stranger Things past its second season with the same cast of characters. With that in mind, the producers confirmed that Stranger Things seasons beyond that would serve as direct sequels, rather than a continuation of Seasons 1 and 2 of the hit Netflix drama.

That being said, the cast of the show’s first season are likely to continue into the second season, with producer Shawn Levy saying “I’ll just say that a lot of the big mysteries get answered at the end of Season 1, but we are very much kind of unearthing new problems and questions that merit future stories and future investigation in the most enjoyable way. So we are in love with our cast and our characters.” However, Levy does intend to introduce a few new characters in Season 2, which could lead into the third season.

It’s evident that the producers of Stranger Things have pretty concrete plans in place for the series’ future. That’s something of a surprise, however, considering Stranger Things was only released a few weeks back. With that taken into consideration, it seems safe to assume that Netflix has already approached the producers about taking Stranger Things into a second season.

Since the conclusion of the incredibly popular first season of Stranger Things, there’s been a lot of focus towards what will happen in the show’s second season. According to Digital Trends, that second season was all but confirmed by actor Matthew Modine shortly after the first season aired, saying “Oh, there will be a season two.” Modine also confirmed that Stranger Things was always intended to be more than a miniseries and actually an ongoing series of annual releases.

Stranger Things was left in an interesting place following its first season. Some aspects of the show’s storyline were concluded, however, others weren’t, and that’s something Shawn Levy wants to address if the show is given a second season. He recently confirmed that he’d achieve this by writing Stranger Things Season 2 as a sequel to the first season, rather than a direct continuation. This would mean that he’s able to bring over some characters from the show’s first season whilst also introducing some new faces too.

Exactly what form Stranger Things’ second season will take is likely to be detailed when Netflix officially confirm that second season. Netflix doesn’t like to pass-up on renewing popular series, explaining the longevity of series like House of Cards and Orange Is The New Black. With that in mind, the streaming service is likely to confirm Stranger Things’ second season very soon and in terms of a release date, Netflix will likely air Stranger Things‘ second season in the same calendar slot as its first season, during summer.
