‘The Boss’ Era: Watch Sasha Banks Become Champion & Brock Lesnar Returns Next Week on ‘Raw’

Sasha Banks and Charlotte put on a wrestling clinic for the WWE universe Monday night on Raw. On the heels of her tag team victory at WWE Battleground, Sasha Banks faced WWE women’s champion Charlotte, and the title was on the line. Tonight was the first episode of Raw since the brand-split, and the WWE delivered an action-packed card, including this phenomenal championship match. Ever since Banks moved to the main roster of the WWE, her fans have been anxiously waiting for her to get a shot at Charlotte’s title, and tonight the WWE universe got their wish.

The match was a phenomenal display of athleticism and a contest that many could argue as one of the greatest women’s matches in WWE history. At one point Charlotte even performed a moonsault from the top rope to the outside of the ring where Banks was standing. But at the end of the match, Sasha Banks would deliver a backstabber into the Banks Statement causing Charlotte to tap-out becoming the new WWE women’s champion.

After the match Sasha Banks gave an emotional statement.

“I did it! This has been my dream since I was ten years old. I told everyone I was the best, now this proves that I am the best. IT’s a new era of the WWE, it’s the era of “The Boss,” it’s the era of change, it’s the era of women’s wrestling.”

For months the WWE has been branding this period of wrestling as the “new era,” and between Battleground and Raw, the company certainly has delivered. Dean Ambrose still remains the WWE champion, a spot that many people thought would be brief, and now Sasha Banks is the new WWE women’s champion. With the new brand split, both Smackdown and Raw are almost guaranteed to be more exciting than episodes from the recent past. And next week on Raw will be no different when Brock Lesnar makes his first WWE appearance since defeating Mark Hunt at UFC 200.

On Sunday, at WWE Battleground, Randy Orton returned to the ring for an interview with Chris Jericho. As Sports Illustrated reported, during the interview Randy Orton made a comment about Lesnar, who recently tested positive for anti-estrogen from two tests issued by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA), and took a jab at him failing the tests. “What is it about 20 suplexes? That’s how many it takes to get to [Lesnar’s] Suplex City right? Well it only takes one RKO to get to Viperville — no enhancement needed.”

It will be interesting to see if Lesnar will respond to Orton regarding his comments – or to Mark Hunt for that matter. As The Inquisitr reported, on Monday Mark Hunt was a guest on The MMA Hour and the “Super Samoan” took his own jabs at “The Beast.”

“Before the fight I was assuming he [Lesnar] was cheating. Look at him. There’s no way that guy makes 265 pounds. That guy is a gimp, he’s sticking needles in his a** like the rest of these cheaters. And the thing about that is, he’s sitting here saying ‘this is a fair place.’ Well, it’s not fair. These guys are cheating and they should be in court for it…”

Odds are Lesnar will have plenty to say about Orton and possibly on Hunt as well come next Monday night on Raw. Most likely Orton will not be in attendance next week on Raw as he was drafted to Smackdown during the WWE draft. Lesnar was booked to face Orton at SummerSlam this August before the draft, and that match is still on.
