Taylor Swift: Why Her Positive Image And Popularity Are Up Despite Taylorgate

Taylor Swift can’t care less nowadays if anybody wants to pelt her with eggs online. Chances are, the hateful tweets would be dead on their tracks before even reaching the singer’s social media account. Thanks to Instagram, Taylor now has a magic wand to whisk away Calvin Harris, Kim Kardashian, and Kanye West loyalists to a digital trash bin, according to The Guardian.

“A number of high-profile accounts have been selected to trial a new tool which prevents abusive comments,” says the source. The Sun and the Guardian have no information on whether the said tool will ever be rolled out to ordinary accounts in the future. And this is what the sources lament because according to them, the new tool does nothing to protect the most vulnerable individuals online such as those who belong to the LGBT community.

And so for the time being, Instagram users who aren’t Taylor Swift or Selena Gomez will need to contact the social medium’s help line or top management in case they need to escalate an issue involving being trolled, bullied, or abused online. The source recounts how successful this recourse was in eradicating trolls when an actual incident arose with regard to a Twitter account. It’s not automatic like Taylor’s new Instagram toy, but based on the source’s experience, manually calling out for Twitter technical assistance works wonders.

What Twitter does usually is to assign one of their agents to the vulnerable account, and lo and behold, you will be relieved that online bombing has disappeared and the trolls seem to have ran away.

Meanwhile, according to Huffington Post, Taylor Swift’s trust rating is yet to take a serious hit despite being attacked left and right by the Calvin Harris and Kimye camps in recent weeks. Definitely, the Swift rating is not at an all-time high as it was before the hashtags #KimExposedTaylorSwiftParty or #TaylorSwiftPartyIsOver — but the singer’s trust rating is still higher than Kimye’s.

The source claims that “Taylor Swift is still more likable than Kanye and Kim after their feud.”

Just how likable? Huffington Post explains as follows.

“According to a BuzzFeed-sponsored poll by Morning Consult, Americans favor Miss Swift over Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, with 34 percent of those polled siding with the pop princess and only 8 percent siding with the power couple.”

As it turns out, Taylor Swift is not easy to bury despite concerted efforts on the part of her ex-boyfriend and the Kardashian machinery. So based on the poll results, it looks like the Kimye’s takedown has failed. Here are even more damning poll results for Kim Kardashian West.

“Despite tabloid headlines declaring Swift a liar and the snake emoji becoming the universal sign of her presence, 55 percent of Americans still feel generally favorably about the ‘Blank Space’ singer. Only 16 percent feel favorably about Kardashian, while just 15 percent had a favorable rating of Yeezy. “

Hence, it doesn’t look like Taylorgate can help boost the sagging ratings of Keeping Up With the Kardashians (KUWTK), which have been falling way below expectations since May, according to Radar Online. And with the new tool that Instagram has come up with recently, the one that Taylor Swift is already using, the pop star might be immune from social media attacks.

For its part, Twitter hasn’t done any tweaks to its algorithms lately, and yet the hashtag #KimExposedTaylorSwiftParty seems to have disappeared, according to News.com.au. Twitter explains the case of the missing hashtag by saying that “Trending topics are determined by an algorithm measuring velocity of Tweets about a topic, not overall popularity.”

Based on what recent polls are showing and Taylor Swift’s access to a sophisticated Instagram tool, it looks like the “Shake It Off” singer has developed some form of immunity from online attacks.
