‘Magic Mike’ Sequel: Channing Tatum Says You May Have To Wait

Although the internet has been knee-deep in speculation that Channing Tatum is stepping behind the camera for the sequel to his surprise box office hit Magic Mike, the actor revealed that he may tackle another project before jumping into the follow-up. According to Cinema Blend, Tatum is a little nervous about making his directorial debut with a sequel to a Steven Soderbergh movie.

“Reid and I aren’t idiots! We’re not going to direct our first movie as a sequel to a Steven Soderbergh movie. That’s not smart. I want to start with something very small … make a lot of mistakes, make them real early, and then go jump in [on ‘Magic Mike 2’],” the actor explained to Vulture.

Although Magic Mike 2 might be down the road a piece, Tatum and company already have a pretty good idea where the characters are headed next. “We want to do the sequel. It’s too good of a movie, and the characters are so crazy, that we want to go for it,” he explained. “We feel like we did the little indie version this last time, and for the next one, we want to up the stakes a little, maybe go even farther.”

According to Internet Movie Database, Channing Tatum has a lot on his plate at the moment. In addition to reprising his role as Captain Duke Hauser in G.I. Joe Retaliation, the actor is reportedly slated to appear in the sequel to 21 Jump Street.

This February will see the release of the crime drama The Bitter Pill, Tatum’s latest collaboration with Steven Soderbergh. Next June, the busy actor will appear in Roland Emmerich’s White House Down with Maggie Gyllenhaal and Jason Clarke. The year 2013 is shaping up to be very lucrative for Channing Tatum.
