Kristen Bell Shares Photos From Her $142 Wedding To Dax Shepard

Kristen Bell is finally giving fans a peek at her 2013 wedding to Dax Shepard. In an interview with CBS Sunday Morning, Bell talked about her marriage to the former Punk’d and Parenthood star, and said even though they had a simple courthouse ceremony, the day she married Dax was still one of the best days of her life. Kristen also shared photos from her wedding day for the very first time. Kristen Bell’s wedding didn’t include white dresses, flowers or a big, fancy reception.

“We got married in a tiny room in the Beverly Hills courthouse,” Kristen told CBS. “And it was still one of the best days of my life.”

Bell’s photos show her and Shepard both dressed in black as they said their vows inside the clerk’s office on Oct. 17, 2013. Another photo shows the newlyweds smooching in front of a glass window at the courthouse.

This is the first time Kristen Bell has shared photos from her wedding day, but it’s not the first time fans have heard about the low-cost event. According to the Hollywood Reporter, during a 2013 appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Dax Shepard revealed that the entire ceremony cost just $142—including gas!

Shepard revealed that after he and Bell exchanged vows, someone at the clerk’s office brought them a one-of-a-kind wedding cake.

“It was just Kristen and I at this lonely courthouse so they brought us this cake afterwards,” he said. But instead of a loving sentiment written in icing on the cake, someone wrote “The World’s Worst Wedding” on it instead.

Still, Kristen Bell and her husband weren’t at all offended by the comical cake.

“How many people can say they threw ‘The World’s Worst Wedding?'” Dax asked Kimmel.

Shepard also revealed that it was actually Kimmel’s star-studded Ojai, California wedding extravaganza earlier that year that convinced him to do keep his ceremony with Bell really low-key.

“There were helicopters overhead. It felt like an episode of M*A*S*H,” Dax said of Kimmel’s 2013 wedding to Molly McNeary. “Not that I was counting your money, but I was counting your money at this thing. It was flying out the windows. They were setting it on fire at this place. So we went to the Beverly Hills Courthouse, and all in, with fuel to get there, $142 out the door.”

According to People, Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard started dating in 2007 and became engaged in 2010. The couple, who are staunch advocates of gay rights, ultimately extended their engagement to three years until after the Supreme Court struck down the Defense of Marriage Act, and finally tied the knot in October 2013. Nearly three years later, Kristen and Dax are now parents to two daughters, Lincoln, 3, and Delta, 18 months. The actor recently told Kimmel he had a rush vasectomy after a pregnancy scare last year.

“He’s a wonderful father,” Kristen told CBS of Dax. “He knows the value of things. He was an addict for many, many years and he pulled himself out of it, and he’s been sober for 11, 12 years now.”

While Kristen Bell is best known for her roles in Frozen and Veronica Mars, she says her life is all about her family.

“I always think, if I’m on my deathbed, what am I gonna be thinking about? And it won’t be some random movie I participated in, or some TV show. It will be my family,” Kristen said.
