‘The Young And The Restless’: What Happened To Michael’s Cancer Storyline? Fans Demand For Closure
The Young and the Restless is famous for starting an amazing storyline, then dropping the idea, and not giving the fans any closure. The one storyline that the audience the angriest about is Michael Baldwin’s cancer storyline.
The Young and the Restless viewers were told that Michael’s cancer was grave and life-threatening. We believed that if he didn’t seek treatment, he could die. We felt for him as he pushed Lauren and his family away. The fans deserved more than just dropping the storyline and pretending it never happened.
In late 2014, Christian LeBlanc was in contract negotiations with CBS. He was trying to decide whether it was time to go or stick around for another few years. LeBlanc revealed in an interview that he was at a crossroads at the time, and believed that it was his last chance to get away from the Young and the Restless. Christian decided that he would stick around until either he was let go or retired. Celebrity Dirty Laundry reported that Christian was considering a soap swap and moving to General Hospital. Just a few months before his cancer storyline, his real life best friend, Michelle Stafford, moved to ABC’s General Hospital. The rumor was that LeBlanc was considering a move, too, and would be cast as Nina Clay’s lawyer or friend.

One thing no one can dispute is that Christian’s acting was flawless. The Young and the Restless fans felt for him and wanted him to get the love and support he needed from his family. He struggled to know what the best move was for his family and his health. It was apparent that he wanted to wait to make sure he knew his health status before revealing the diagnosis to his wife, mother, son, and fragile brother.
Michael’s behavior triggered an investigation, and Kevin uncovered that he had some type of secret. The Young and the Restless spoilers suggested that Michael could have been cheating on his gorgeous wife. Kevin confronted his brother about his suspicions and learned the truth–Michael was battling cancer. It was a blow to Kevin’s world. He recently lost the love of his life, Chloe, and was now faced with his brother dying. The Young and the Restless spoilers showed that it was too much for him to handle alone and urged him to talk to his wife about it–or he would tell her. Michael explained that he didn’t want Lauren to know yet because he didn’t want her to pity him. He was worried about their love life, and his wife cheating on him (again).

In the end, Michael and Lauren battled cancer together, UExpress reported. The Young and the Restless told a compelling story, and when he began to feel better, the storyline was dropped. For a while, they would mention his cancer treatments, but after a month it was a distant memory. There is no mention of his health scare, and no one talks about how close he was to losing his life to cancer.
The Young and the Restless underestimated the fans memory when they chose to drop the storyline. Fans still talk about Michael’s cancer, and many of them still want to know what happened when he let his mother know he had cancer, and if he is in remission. The soap opera had an opportunity to bring awareness to cancer, and they chose to drop the storyline to bring a doppelganger to torment Phyllis and Jack?
