Seth MacFarlane, known for Family Guy, American Dad, raunchy humor, and all-things-awesome made his big-screen directorial debut this year with Ted, a film in which Mark Wahlberg gets drunk with a teddy bear. That’s reductive, but the film made almost half a billion dollars, so chances are you saw it and I don’t need to summarize it for you. The news that will likely interest you? MacFarlane is already thinking “sequel.”

The mega-hit comedy Ted was green-lighted for a follow-up earlier this week when NBCUniversal CEO Steve Burke announced plans to make Ted 2 “as soon as we can,” at the Bank of America Merrill Lynch 2012 Media, Communications & Technology conference, reports Zap2it. This really only means that studio heads want to see a sequel to the film, and that cast, filmmakers, storyline, production schedules or release date information aren’t even close to being put to paper just yet. However, studio interest is always the first step in a film’s production.

Next, you need creator interest.

“We’re thinking about it,” MacFarlane told TMZ of the possibility of a Ted sequel. MacFarlane was in New York this weekend with his Ted co-writers Alec Sulkin and Wellesley Wild, so by “thinking about it,” MacFarlane probably means “we’re working on it,” but that they don’t have a story in mind just yet.

Ted was a rare critical darling in the raunchy comedy genre, garnering a 70% critic approval rating at Rotten Tomatoes. It is currently the highest-grossing R-rated film of 2012, as well as the 9th-highest grossing film of 2012. The film starred Mark Wahlberg, Mila Kunis, and MacFarlane himself as the eponymous “Ted.” The film co-starred Giovanni Ribisi, Joel McHale, Jessica Stroup, and Patrick Warburton.
