Sierah Joughin’s Body Found, Suspect In Custody, Victim’s Mom Believes More Than One Person Involved [Video]

The body of missing Ohio 20-year-old Sierah Joughin has reportedly been found. The young woman, who was set to go to college this coming fall, was last spotted alive at about 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday, July 19. Sierah Joughin was last seen riding a purple bicycle; that bike was later found abandoned in a corn field near Evergreen High School in Metamora, Ohio, near where Sierah Joughin had been riding, reports ABC News.

Sierah Joughin had been on a bike ride with her boyfriend, who was the last one to see her alive, when they split up at about 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday. According to Fulton County Sheriff Roy Miller, when authorities found Sierah Joughin’s bicycle, they also found signs of a struggle at the scene.

At no time did local investigators seem to suspect Sierah’s boyfriend, Josh Kolasinski, in her disappearance; according to law enforcement the pair parted “amicably.”

“He’s doing whatever they ask, he’s been trying to help.”

Even after finding the bike abandoned, Joughin’s family (who reported her missing on Tuesday when she failed to come home from her ride) and authorities were hopeful that they would find her alive and well.

On Friday, an arrest was made in connection to the disappearance of Sierah Joughin. James Dean Worley, 57, was arrested in the early morning hours of July 22. Following the arrest, local law enforcement said during a press conference that they had “no reason” to think that Joughin wasn’t still alive, and that finding her was the Fulton County Sheriff’s “number one priority.”

According to authorities, at the time of his arrest, James Worley was charged with abduction in connection to Sierah’s mysterious vanishing.

Despite the arrest, and despite the signs of an apparent struggle near the site of Sierah’s abandoned purple bicycle, family, police, friends, and loved ones were still holding onto hope that the 20-year-old would be found alive. Those hopes were dashed at 6:00 p.m. Friday. That’s when a female body was found not far from where Sierah Joughin was last seen alive, near Country Road 7, close to where her abandoned bike was discovered earlier in the week.

Local law enforcement made the announcement that Sierah Joughin’s body had been found at a news conference on Saturday, telling the public that they expect to levy new charges against James Worley now that the circumstances of the case and investigation have changed.

In a disturbing twist, it has been revealed that James Dean Worley had a prior conviction related to abducting a young woman. That incident took place back in 1990, and the details of the case closely mirror the tragic abduction and death of Sierah Joughin. In the 1990 case, however, the Worley’s victim was able to get away.

James Worley spent only a couple of years in prison for his prior abduction conviction. He was paroled in 1993.

According to Fulton County investigators, authorities have no reason to believe that Sierah Joughin had any previous connection with her alleged murderer.

On Friday, People published an interview with Sierah Joughin’s mother, Sheila Vaculik. The interview took place before the arrest of Worley and discovery of Sierah Joughin’s remains. However, at that time, Sierah’s mother was understandably frustrated. She also didn’t believe that a single perpetrator could have successfully abducted her daughter.

“She’s a strong girl. She’s had self-defense classes. We’ve talked extensively about being aware of her surroundings and what to do if somebody takes you.”

Following the disappearance of Sierah Joughin, the FBI became involved in the investigation into the unexplained vanishing. Hundreds of local volunteers also turned up to help search for her, in a vain attempt to bring Sierah Joughin home safe and sound.
