SDCC: Spider-Man Swings In To Reveal Concept Art For The Vulture In ‘Homecoming’ Movie, Actor Who Plays Vulture Revealed [Video]

The new Spider-Man: Homecoming movie, which is scheduled to be released in 2017, just made a major reveal at SDCC today. Never-before seen footage of the film was shown during the panel for the movie and concept art was revealed that showed what the Vulture villain would look like in the new movie. The Vulture has never been featured in a Spider-Man movie until now, and the concept art shown below looks even better than the comics version. Deadline Hollywood reported on the SDCC event that featured the reboot of the epic Spider-Man movie franchise. The director of the film, Jon Watts, said the film was “a straight up high school movie,” and Deadline described the scenes that were shown at SDCC was like “John Hughes with Super Powers.”

An article by Heavy said the new Spider-Man movie isn’t just a reboot, there is a big difference in this film. Tom Holland will be playing Peter Parker, but Watts didn’t want to make this film an “origin story for Spidey,” so Uncle Ben has already passed away at the beginning of the film. Holland also starred as Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War, and was more of a “sarcastic, funny high-schooler who looks up to Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr.) as sort of a father figure.” Peter is also being raised by his Aunt May, played by Marisa Tomei.

Trailers of the film before had really not touched on a plot, and the SDCC panel really didn’t give much of a plot spoiler either. The panel did reveal that the movie will mainly focus on Peter Parker’s high school life, or as Deadline said, Parker’s “high school life as a nerd — and no luck with girls,” which was shown in the exclusive clip.

The footage apparently showed scenes of Peter’s high school life and then the clip ends with short scenes of Parker doing super-hero stuff, and The Vulture swoops in at the end. Don’t look for this footage on YouTube, however — the powers-that-be at Marvel said the footage was only for the eyes of the fans at SDCC and they would not be releasing the clip online, which has made a few fans unhappy.

Heavy did say that Michael Keaton has been pegged to play the villain of the film, The Vulture. Other cast members are (as seen in order in the tweet below) Laura Harrier, Tony Revolori, Jacob Batalon, Zendaya, and of course the first guy on the left is Tom Holland himself. Although the cast was confirmed at the SDCC panel, the characters weren’t revealed, other than Holland’s, which was already known.

Although the exclusive footage won’t be released, Marvel did at least give a “verbal description” of the Homecoming clip, as revealed by ComicBook.

“Bad Reputation plays, and shots of high school. ‘Every Story’ then shots of Tony, Rhodey, each character in high school. ‘Every journey. Has a beginning.’ Peter is walking through school, and a homecoming banner goes up. 9:30am Science. Peter’s looking at footage of himself taking Giant Man down. Flash Thompson is an Indian character. The Disney channel star Zendaya may be playing Liz Allan! In Chemistry, Parker works on his web fluid on the side. A girl is playing F, M, K with Avengers. Liz thinks Spidey is hot. One of his other friends is trying to figure out what he’s hiding. Jump cuts of him running down a hallway zipping a hoodie over the costume, and climbing up a wall, and finally, he and the ‘Ganke type’ doing a handshake. Then VULTURE comes down a tube, with crazy armor.”
