Ambassador Chris Stevens: Mother Of Benghazi Victim Demands That Trump Stop Using His Name [Video]

Ambassador Chris Stevens’ mom is not appreciative that her son’s name is being used for political purposes by Donald Trump and the GOP. She’s also reportedly tired of Trump and the Republican Party using the story of Ambassador Stevens’ death to promote their collective, right-wing political agenda, reports ABC News. Both the GOP and Trump have played loose with Ambassador Stevens’ name and tragic death in Benghazi during the current tumultuous political cycle.

Ambassador Chris Stevens, an American diplomat, was brutally slaughtered in Benghazi in 2012 during a terror attack at the diplomatic embassy. At the time of the deadly attack in Benghazi, Donald Trump’s primary political rival Hillary Clinton was the U.S. secretary of State, and Trump has used both the attack on Benghazi and the death of Ambassador Stevens as political leverage against Clinton as part of his campaign platform.

Ambassador Chris Stevens wasn’t the only victim of the deadly attack on Benghazi; and families of some of the other victims appear to agree with Donald Trump’s assessment of Hillary Clinton’s culpability in the terror attack. Patricia Smith, mother of Benghazi victim Sean Smith, is so supportive of Donald Trump’s position on Clinton and Benghazi that she recently spoke at the Republican National Convention. According to her, Hillary Clinton is directly to blame for the deaths at the diplomatic outpost, reports Politifact.

“For all of this loss, for all of this grief, for all of the cynicism the tragedy in Benghazi has wrought upon America, I blame Hillary Clinton. I blame Hillary Clinton personally for the death of my son.”

Despite Patricia Smith’s anger at Hillary Clinton, it’s not usually her son’s name that is thrown around by politicians and the media in reference to Benghazi. Ambassador Chris Stevens’ name is the most recognizable of the Benghazi victims, and it’s the one that Donald Trump has consistently used when disparaging rival Clinton about Benghazi.

Ambassador Stevens’ name is used so much, in fact, that his mother is asking that Trump and the GOP stop using it at all. Mary F. Commanday, mother of Ambassador Chris Stevens, wrote an open letter to Trump and the Republican Party directly objecting to the use of Ambassador Stevens’ name and the story of his death for their political purposes.

That letter was published in its entirety in the New York Times on Friday, July 22. According to Ambassador Chris Stevens’ mom, her son wouldn’t want to be affiliated with the political aims of the GOP and Donald Trump, and she wants both entities to stop using Stevens’ name and the story of his brutal slaughter at Benghazi forever and without delay.

“As Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens’s mother, I am writing to object to any mention of his name and death in Benghazi, Libya, by Donald Trump’s campaign and the Republican Party.

“I know for certain that Chris would not have wanted his name or memory used in that connection. I hope that there will be an immediate and permanent stop to this opportunistic and cynical use by the campaign.”

Aside from submitting the open letter, Ambassador Chris Stevens’ mom has not spoken to the media about her cease and desist demand. Despite not choosing to respond to media questioning about the subject, the grieving mother of Ambassador Stevens made her wishes incredibly clear in her open letter to the media, Donald Trump, and the Republican Party.

In an unusual turn of events, Donald Trump has yet to use his Twitter feed to respond to the demands of Ambassador Stevens’ mom, either, despite the fact that Mary Commanday’s letter came just days after Donald Trump and the GOP exploited the Benghazi attacks repeatedly at the Republican National Convention.
