The Team Behind ‘Pokémon GO’ Wants To Take On ‘Game Of Thrones’ Next

In a few short weeks, Pokémon GO has taken over the world. The game allows players to become real-life Pokémon trainers by searching all over towns and cities to catch them all.

But a new report says that after the success of Pokémon GO, next in line could be a Game of Thrones version!

According to Fansided, a developer for the hit game — which is aimed at kids but draws in adult gamers that grew up with Pikachu in the 90s and dreamed of being Ash Ketchum — is Archit Bhargava. His idea includes a real life board game and a real life Game of Thrones.

In an interview with Gamespot, Archit shared more of his newest ideas.

“We’re not that worried about the effect that each game might have on the other, but what we’re hoping is that with both these games, the overall pie of real world games will increase. There could be a board game you could make in the real world where people are capturing locations like Risk or something. My personal fantasy is like a Game of Thrones game where Westeros is mapped out on Earth, and you join House Stark or whatever.”

Of course, Pokémon GO brings about warm and happy memories of gamers who grew up playing the game and it feeds off that nostalgia. Game of Thrones isn’t very happy, feel good type show by any stretch of the imagination so it might be set up different.

One of those differences could be joining a house, and taking control of locations on the map — similar to how gamers take control of a gym in Pokémon GO.

The end goal could be taking the Iron Throne, which would be the most logical end game. But where would the throne be located? Would there be a throne in each and every city?

Some may think that just because one developer says it’s his “personal favorite” doesn’t necessarily mean it’s going to happen.

And while that may be true, to a certain extent, Business Insider points out that not only has Game of Thrones been a mega success virtually since Season 1, Episode 1, but Pokémon GO has also shared in mass success.

When the augmented reality game was released, it made Nintendo a staggering $7.5 billion more valuable in a mere two days.

So logically speaking, a combination of the two could only mean success right? Could Game of Thrones fans soon be chasing dire wolves down Hollywood Boulevard? If this developer gets his way, then yes.

Of course, Entertainment.ie reports that unlike Pokémon GO, a Game of Thrones version would have to involve HBO, George R.R. Martin, and perhaps others. But with so much money involved it’s hard not to see them being easily convinced.

Another option is to cash in on both mega fanbases, generating millions of dollars, and create a Westeros map within the Pokémon GO game.

The GPS in the game would still track a players’ movement and location but instead would send them to places named after the Seven Kingdoms. Imagine catching a Pokémon on the Wall, or in Winterfell, maybe even Pichu sitting on the Iron Throne!

So fans, what do you think? Should Pokémon GO venture out and create a new game and aim at Game of Throne fans? What about the set-up? Should it be an entirely different game or would it be too unconventional to catch a Pichu in the Seven Kingdoms? Let us know your Pokémon GO ideas in the comments below!
