UFC Rumors: Cris ‘Cyborg’ Wants Ronda Rousey At UFC 205

Cris “Cyborg” Justino wants Ronda Rousey in the worst way. UFC’s newest star in the women’s bantamweight division has her eyes on the former champion. Cris Cyborg versus Ronda Rousey has been a long time coming. It is possible that a fight can finally take place between Cris Cyborg and Ronda Rousey.

After years of fighting in Invicta FC, Cyborg has always had her eye on Rousey. Now that she is in the UFC, a bout can take place. Knowing this, Cyborg has called her shot once more — she wants the former women’s bantamweight champion to face her at UFC 205.

According to ESPN, Cris Cyborg has challenged Ronda Rousey to fight her on the UFC 205 card for November 12. UFC 205 will take place at Madison Square Garden. It will be the first time the UFC will host a pay-per-view at one of the world’s most famous arenas.

Cris Cyborg versus Ronda Rousey would be huge for UFC 205. As Cris Cyborg puts it, their match does not have to for a title. She just wants to fight. Her way of challenging Rousey is interesting. Cris Cyborg took to Facebook (via ESPN) to criticize the former champion.

“When we worry about marketing an image created by the media, our bigger goals are sacrificed. You can’t look up because your face is in a pillow after being the bully and getting your a** kicked. Being humble enough to not believe the hype around you can be difficult.”

Cris Cyborg wants to prove for once and for all which fighter is the best in the octagon.

A fight between Cris Cyborg and Ronda Rousey has not happened up until this point because of the weight difference. Cyborg typically fights in the 145-pound weight class in Invicta FC, while Rousey competes in the bantamweight limit of 135 pounds. All of which can be made up at a catch-weight of 140 pounds.

“I’m not trying to inspire you to suddenly become a better person, or become anything you’re not. But there was a time in your life when you told people you wanted to fight me. Maybe you didn’t quite understand the way the world worked then, but you also didn’t care what anyone thought.”

“I guess what I’m trying to tell you is that you don’t need to be the champ to fight me.”

A fight between Cris Cyborg and Ronda Rousey may have to wait, unfortunately. UFC president Dana White has already come out and said that Rousey will receive an automatic title shot, according to the Washington Post, upon her return.

That same opportunity was not given to Holly Holm or Miesha Tate when they lost the title. It is clear that the UFC wants to restart the Ronda Rousey hype train right where it left off.

Because of this the new women’s bantamweight champion, Amanda Nunes can only twist in the wind until Rousey makes up her mind. The longer Ronda Rousey holds out, the less likely Amanda Nunes will get to defend the title against someone else.

In a perfect world, UFC 205 would have two women bouts as the main event. At the top, it would be Amanda Nunes facing the winner of the Holly Holm and Valentina Shevchenko fight. The co-main event would be Cris Cyborg versus Ronda Rousey. The winner of that fight would get a shot at the champion.

How Dana White has things set up, it puts Ronda Rousey right back at the top, making her the priority over everyone else in the division. It will also steer her away from Cris Cyborg. Following this path could do a disservice to Amanda Nunes, who deserves better.

It is already common knowledge that the face of the UFC’s women’s divisions is Ronda Rousey first, and everyone second. Until Dana White allows Amanda Nunes and the contenders to carry the mantle alongside Rousey, not behind her, the women’s divisions will suffer.

It is understandable that Dana White wants to put the marketing behind the UFC’s biggest star. Ronda Rousey is the biggest star because of the push she receives.

It is unknown if she is the best fighter. In fact, Cris Cyborg believes that she, not Ronda Rousey, is the better fighter. That would explain why Cris Cyborg keeps challenging the former champion.

To Cris Cyborg, it is about the fight, not the titles or the marketing, just the competition. Cris Cyborg wants to take on the face of the UFC at UFC 205. A fight between Cris Cyborg and Ronda Rousey would be the best fight to make right now for Dana White, not instantly thrust the former champion back into a title shot.

Will Cris Cyborg get her wish? We will soon find out.
