Watch Sweet 3-Legged Rescued Pit Bull From Michael Vick’s Dog Fighting Ring Cuddle Kittens [Video]

Meet a dog named Cherry, who is changing the minds of those who assumed that the 53 pit bulls saved from Michael Vick’s dog fighting ring would forever be dangerous. The rescued pit bull is proving doubters wrong by showing off his loving personality to everyone he meets – and that even includes tiny kittens, reported Us Weekly.

It’s been nine years since Cherry and his dog pals were rescued from the horrible conditions of the Bad Newz Kennels in Virginia. During that time, the sweet pet has enjoyed a better life while helping to cheer those who meet him.

“When I saw Cherry for the first time, he looked so alone. He just needed somebody there to give him the time that he needed to recover,” recalled the pit bull’s owner Paul Fiaccone.

“He’s overcome so much. … He wants to be happy. He wants to give back. What he wants to do is love.”

The lucky dog has another owner, Melissa Fiaccone, who emphasized that Cherry has become a loving and beloved family dog. When it comes to her children, the pit bull has taken on the role of a furry big brother.

“This dog is one of the best family dogs you can ask for,” praised Melissa. “He’s like a big brother (to our kids).”

It’s not just his family who benefit from the endless love that Cherry has to offer. The pit bull also contributes to a community outreach effort directed at young people. The rescued dog works with children to assist in educating them about the importance of compassion to animals and animal rescue.

BarkPost has created a Dog’s Best Day series, and Cherry stars in one of the videos. Now 11-years-old, the pit bull has a special affection for cute tiny kittens, and BarkPost came through with kitties as part of his day filled with his favorite things.

Watch below to see just how much this special pit bull enjoyed his best day overflowing with all of his favorite things.

As for how the kittens magically appeared to help the pit bull celebrate his best day, Friends of Berlin Animal Control came through with a group of kittens, taking them to the Fiaccones’ house. The rescued dog happily cuddled with the cat babies in his “Kitten Cuddle Fort.” But it wasn’t his first experience in enjoying kitty love.

“Cherry loves kittens!” added Paul. “He has two cats now. He loves to play with them. Every time he’s around kittens it just seems like all his stress goes away.”

The pit bull’s owner even revealed that Cherry has a dream dog.

“He would definitely love to be a kitty nanny for a day!”

Other highlights of the dog’s best day included lapping up a yummy ice cream sundae (made especially so that it was safe for a dog) and romping in a beach-styled arrangement in the backyard. His loving owners emphasized just how much the pit bull deserves having such a great day, including how the world can benefit from understanding the dog’s life.

“Cherry deserves a great day like this because he gives back so much,” reflected Paul. “He has shown the world that even if you come from a background like he did, you can still go on to become a great family dog.”

And Melissa summed up what the pit bull has contributed to the family.

“He really is the heartbeat of our family,” she added.

Cherry is not the only survivor of Vick’s dog-fighting ring. About half of the dogs who were rescued found help at Best Friends Animal Society’s sanctuary in Utah, according to Today.

The dogs were given guidance that helped them start their lives over again as pets who deserved and gave love. Michelle Weaver, Best Friends’ director of animal care, emphasized the organization’s belief that the dogs deserved the opportunity because they were victimized by their past.

“Many people thought that, based on the dogs coming from a fighting background, that they should automatically be euthanized,” noted Michelle.

“[We] really felt the dogs deserved to go through the rehabilitation process because they were the victims.”

The Best Friends’ director of animal care cited Cherry as an example of just how frightened the dogs were when they first arrived.

“When we would try to walk him, he would flatten his body right to the ground and almost crawl because he was so scared,” recalled Weaver.

But now, in contrast, nothing stops the pit bull from loving every minute of his life. Although he is three-legged because one of his back legs was amputated due to arthritis, this happy dog isn’t slowing down. All he needed was a chance, pointed out one of his owners.

“If Cherry was a vicious dog, he would not be able to recover,” noted Paul Fiaccone. “He just needed somebody there to give him the time that he needed to recover.”
