SDCC 2016: Season 4 of ‘Vikings’ Promises ‘Calamity, Chaos, Tragedy And Death’ Thanks To Ragnar’s Return

History has dropped the new trailer for the Season 4 return of Vikings during their panel at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. So, let’s have a look at what fans can expect to see moving forward.

It seems like a great storm is coming, not only to Kattegat in the Season 4 return of Vikings, but to England as well. And this storm may just be literally as well as figuratively!

While some of the footage in the latest trailer for the Season 4 return of Vikings has been seen in previous trailers, there is still plenty of brand new content. Bjorn Ironside (Alexander Ludwig) suggests that maybe his father should not have returned to Kattegat and it looks like the Seer (John Kavanagh) agrees with him, proclaiming, “your father’s return brings calamity, chaos, tragedy and death,” when Bjorn goes to visit him. Bjorn declares he is “not afraid,” but the Seer thinks he should be.

For fans who are concerned Ragnar Lothbrok will not play a large role in the second half of Season 4 of Vikings, this latest trailer seems to indicate otherwise. And, as the show’s creator, Michael Hirst, has pointed out previously, there is still plenty of Ragnar’s story to be told. Hirst also revealed to the Hollywood Reporter at Comic-Con that there would be a couple of extra special episodes in the second half of Season 4.

“This season is monumental and there are two episodes that are unlike anything we’ve ever done. There’s never been anything on TV like them before. Change is in the air.”

Ragnar Lothbrok (Travis Fimmel) tells Floki (Gustaf Skarsgard) he will have to go back to England and Floki agrees, adding that he should have done it a “long time ago.” It seems Season 4 of Vikings will see Ragnar confront King Ecbert (Linus Roache) about the fact he killed Ragnar’s Viking settlement in England.

Whether Ragnar makes it to England or not is yet to be seen, but, at some point in Season 4, it appears Ragnar will be confined at spear point. it seems, also, that Ragnar is insisting his son, Ivar (Alex Andersen) seek revenge. Ivar then goes on to plan for an army twice the size of the one Ragnar took to Paris. For history buffs, things are starting to shape up like the Viking sagas just nicely here. For Aethelwulf (Moe Dunford), King Ecbert’s son, the army size disturbs him, so it seems there will certainly be a massive Viking attack on England in the second half of Season 4 of Vikings, just like Ragnar wanted.

Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick) confronts Aslaug (Alyssa Sutherland) as was announced previously by the Inquisitr. It seems Lagertha is still bitter at Aslaug for “taking away [her] husband and [her] world.” It will be very interesting to see how this fight between Ragnar’s two wives pans out. Also interesting to note is the fact Lagertha also appears to find herself a new love interest in the Season 4 return of Vikings.

So what of the return date for Season 4 of Vikings? Fans have been desperate for this news since the show concluded with its mid-season finale last April. The trailer teases that “this Fall, the world will tremble.” So, as yet, History Channel has still not released a return date, something fans were definitely expecting to see at the end of this trailer.

This year marks the 47th year that the San Diego Comic-Con has been held, making it the longest-running convention of its kind. San Diego Comic-Con runs from Thursday, July 21, to Sunday, July 24, at the San Diego Convention Center.
