Donald Trump’s Daughter Ivanka Wows RNC In One Of Her Own Dresses — Made In China

Ivanka Trump wowed the Republican National Convention, introducing her father, Donald J. Trump, before his 75-minute acceptance speech. As the Inquisitr reported, she spoke of women’s rights and equal pay, explaining why she thought her father could improve American life. Or as Donald Trump likes to put it, “make America great again.”

Ivanka Trump, according to New York Magazine,”wore a sleeveless pink sheath dress from her own clothing line, which is available at stores such as Macy’s, Nordstrom, and Lord & Taylor.”

“Ivanka’s clothing line is manufactured and distributed by G-iii, an apparel group that manages the Calvin Klein, Kenneth Cole, and Jessica Simpson brands, among others….Thanks to her arrangement with G-iii, most of Ivanka’s clothing line is manufactured outside the U.S.”

The Los Angeles Times said Ivanka Trump tweeted information on where to buy dresses identical to hers, with a link to Macy’s. The dress sells for between $138 to $158, pocket change for a member of the Trump family, but too expensive for most ordinary American women. The Times pointed out that Ivanka is following in her father’s shoes; Trump is infamous for commingling his business and political interests. Donald Trump schedules press conferences at properties he owns, usually properties with his name on them: Trump Tower, Trump Turnberry Resort, Trump International Golf Links, Trump National Golf Club Jupiter.

Robin Abcarian of the Los Angeles Times had a less than flattering opinion of Ivanka Trump’s dress.

“As a former fashion editor, I hope you will indulge me for a moment. Ivanka’s dress was pretty, but it did not look especially well made, or expensive. She is a former fashion model, and can carry off just about any look. But under the glare of the lights, one could see that the side seams pulled, and the dress was looser in the bodice than a tailored dress would be.”

Professor Robert Lawrence of Harvard University pointed out to PBS the hypocrisy of Donald Trump complaining about trade deficits and jobs going overseas to foreign factories when the majority of his products and Ivanka’s fashion line are manufactured in other countries.

“The Trump brand also has a more feminine side — the Ivanka Trump brand. And where are the dresses, purses, shoes and other accessories that reflect Trump’s daughter’s taste made? Of the 838 Ivanka products advertised through the site, none appear to be made exclusively in the U.S.; 628 are said to be imported and 354 made specifically in China.”

Fortune wondered why Ivanka Trump, who is one of her father’s biggest supporters, sent shoppers to Macy’s. Donald Trump, who Hillary Rodham Clinton infamously described as “someone thin-skinned and quick to anger, who lashes out at the smallest criticism,” is prone to feuds. One of his feuds is with Macy’s, which is one of the stores where his daughter Ivanka is selling her clothing line. Macy’s had sold Donald Trump’s menswear since 2004; Trump even appeared in commercials for them. Macy’s ended its business dealings with Trump after his racist comments about Mexicans. Since then, Donald Trump “has repeatedly taunted Macy’s in the last year, taking delight in the department store chain’s travails, and precipitous share price drop.” However, Ivanka Trump did not let that affect her business dealings with Macy’s. She may be loyal to her father politically, but apparently when it comes to business, profit comes before family unity.

“While Ivanka was never dragged into that contretemps, some find it surprising she has maintained her relationship with a retailer her father has wished ill fortune upon. It’s all the more surprising given that the dress is also sold at Nordstrom, a retailer that has never fought with Trump father, and she could have directed shoppers there instead.”

What did you think of Ivanka Trump’s dress? Was she hypocritical to wear and sell a dress made overseas while her father Donald Trump argues in favor of bringing manufacturing jobs back to the U.S.A.?
