Watch Moment Deaf Baby Girl Hears Her Mother For The First Time [Video]

Annabelle Lawrence was born profoundly deaf, and at three months of age, she finally gets to hear her mother’s voice for the very first time. The video captures the heartwarming and tissue-worthy moment when Annabelle the deaf baby hears for the first time ever.

According to a report by the Telegraph, Annabelle was fitted with two new hearing aids on Wednesday, allowing her to hear her first sounds. While at first she seemed very confused and perplexed, eventually the baby girl couldn’t hide her delight, relaxing and grinning happily at everyone around her.

Annabelle’s mother is Sarah Jo from Boise, Idaho, and in the video we can hear her asking her baby daughter if she can hear her.

“Hi, can you hear your mommy?” she asks.

As Sarah Jo speaks, Annabelle’s eyes open wide, as if she cannot believe what she is hearing. While at first she is obviously confused, Annabelle eventually breaks out into a huge gummy grin, over the moon to be able to hear her mother speak for the first time.

As the video carries on, the audiologist from Idaho Elks Hearing and Balance Center in Boise continues with various tests on the deaf baby to determine at what level Annabelle’s hearing is now working correctly.

During the procedure, Sarah Jo took an amazing array of photos of little Annabelle, capturing all those amazing and cute expressions.

The audiologist claps her hands, after which the little girl first looks perplexed, turning her head a full 90 degrees, trying to find the source of the sound and eventually tracking it down.

As reported by the Daily Star and speaking of the experience, Annabelle’s mother said, “Everything has been so overwhelming.

“To be able to tell Annabelle that I love her and know she hears me is very emotional. You could see how excited she was to be able to hear.”

“I can’t stop talking to her. Whenever I’m doing the dishes or putting a wash on I give her a running commentary. I want her to be able to catch up on the last three months,” Sarah Jo added.

While her new hearing aids enable Annabelle to hear well enough for now – as the auditory nerve in her brain is functioning correctly – they are a temporary measure. Reportedly when she is nine months of age, the hearing aids will be replaced by more permanent cochlear implants.

Her mother, Sarah Jo, said that at the moment, Annabelle is understandably really tired with all the excitement she is going through.

“I think hearing for the first time means her brain is working extra hard to understand what is happening,” she added.

“She is napping much longer than she did before to recuperate. But when she’s awake she is so much more excited.”
